  1. Hi Shekhar Sir ,

I am Sakshi. I have always seen your work and admired. The way you present your creation is exceptional and that has made me realize that we share common views and perception of this world.

A small girl who watched “UDAAN” started feeling that there is still scope for a girl from middle class family , with no one to support , build her own career. That is from where i started knowing you.

You are kind of my dream man and please these are not just the words of flattery but my confession that yes i like you. You have portrayed what a man should be like. You are a true man.

In spite of all the criticism, you continued working on the critical subjects and example of that is “Bandit Queen”.

Sir it will be biggest achievement of my life if i could talk to you and get to know a person like you. I want your vision to stay forever, this world needs it. I will be waiting for reply to my post.

    thanks , sakshi

  2. Hi Shekhar,

Going through the comments here it seems I’m not the only fan you have.

I can see how many want to be associated with you, that just shows how crazy people are about your style of film making.

Anyway, I personally don’t want anything, just that I have unique story that you could translate into a hollywood project. All I wish to see is the story getting translated into a movie before I depart this world.

I don’t expect any remuneration and won’t even mind if my name does not appear in the credits.

rexdavid2010@gmail.com is my email id. I’m not even sure if it is you really to whom this blog belongs but this is the only mode I could find to contact you.

If you feel that you would like to know the story, just send me an email and i’ll forward the story to you. After that, it belongs to you. And even if you don’t email me, just want to let you know that I’m a big fan of yours and please keep up with the quality work. Would love to see if you are able to revive Mr.India. 🙂

    Thanks,
    Rex

  3. Dear Shekhar,
This is about Water Issue that you have raised so eloquently.

Can you please tell me where the water goes, even if it is being wasted by some/many of us? Through drainage, spillage and all that wastage of water, it finally reaches the ground water table, thereby replenishing the same. Then how come the impending water crisis?

Even if, the water evaporates due to constant wastage, it will ultimately rain down and reach the ground water. Then how come the crisis? Not that I am trying to challenge your cause, I just want to be aware of the the “leakage” in my idea of water-cycle. I’m also rummaging the pages of http://www.globalwater.org for the answer.

    Expecting a response.

    With warm regards.

  4. Your blog is fantastic….. You very deeply concerned about the issues of the society. Its nice too see that…

I am deeply devastated by the foreign cultural involvement in Bhuddhist religion. Some people even not believing in Bhuddha, but following Bhuddhism instructed and dictated by the interpreted version of His teachings by foreign people. It is the high time for us to show the pure version of Sri. Gautam Bhuddha… You should think of taking a movie on Bhudha…. His teachings and his way of living…

    Thank you,

    Sijo

  7. I’ve been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

  8. I am a 16-year old author who wants to know if it is possible for you make my book into a film for every other director I have submitted it to has rejected it and didn’t even look at the material. I was hoping if you could, you could see it and not reject it but turn into a film, I thank you for reading this and hope to hear you at your earliest convenience.

  9. Namaste,

You redirected me to two of your blogs when I showered a bit of my angst, regarding hatred for each ‘other’ ,on you through twitter. I have read them both, my heart agrees with both the sides, my soul agrees with the human side of things. This may seem meaningless but to me it is very profound: I am very disappointed in the world that I have come to inhabit as a grown up. All I see and hear are tales of hatred that we carry towards a certain group just because ‘so and so did this to my grandfather therefore his entire race/culture is a blot on humanity’ etc.

Even social networking sites have become parasitic with these faceless but alive and kicking hate mongers. Somewhere almost all of us(with few exceptions) walk around with a bundle of hatred for each other that we only display either online or in times of crisis when attacked by the other. If this isn’t fixed, there will never be equal opportunities for all of us because somewhere a jain will favour a jain in a job interview, a muslim will want only a muslim to paint his house and a maharashtrian will only idolize a Maharashtrian Hindi film star. I wish we could blot out all of our names(first and last) and be assigned numbers instead, maybe then we will all stand to be loved/treated fairly. Naam main kya rakha hai?= Nafrat ke paude ki jarr!

Thank you for making a difference and getting us to talk and share.

    Maria

  12. BRITISH DRESS

Why is the colour of the Indian police uniform khaki, not any other colour?

In the mid-1800s, British soldiers in India began dyeing their white uniforms a dusty colour, using anything from muddy water to tea (camellia sinensis). Cutch (the same as the astringent catechu) was a reliable dye already in use for calico-prints in India’s cotton fabric industry. The dye created the colour khak, an Indian word for dust, earth, and ashes. In 1847, Sir Harry Burnett Lumsden brought in the first official khaki uniform.

  13. Hi !

Am just one who admires you and appreciates all your work. Would like to definitely meet up with you ,and have a cup of ‘chai’ – vow ! that will be kind of my day. 21. Hi Shekhar

    A Hollywood-based group called ScriptToScreen-Network –

    http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ScriptToScreen-Network-2672317

is exploring this question and opportunity:

“The path from Hollywood to Bollywood…

As screenwriters, I am sure most of us would consider selling our screenplays to Indian-based producers and studios, as we are now in a global market and a new world economy. When we think of Indian moviemaking, I’m sure most writers, myself included, think of “Bollywood” and all movies needing to be musicals with elaborate sets and dance choreography. I’m sure this is only my ignorance and naivete showing, so I am curious- what ARE the most common misconceptions about Indian cinema today? Can a screenwriter in North America find success marketing and selling screenplays in these overseas markets?”

I am inviting you to respond (you will need to become a member of this interesting group first. I promise you it is worthwhile).

I am finding it hard to find cross-cultural (Indian yet North American exposure) film makers…can you please ask such friends of you to also respond?

I consider this an important emerging opportunity as yet unexplored and you are eminently qualified to address this.

    Please don’t ignore.

    thanks!

  24. Hello Mister Kapur,
I just watched your TED talk entitled “We are the stories we tell ourselves. I want to say thanks. As a writer I’ve been using the layered approach that you speak of. Inside the story I hid many myths and even the concept of emptiness. I have these in the back of my mind. The myths act as broad constraints to the characters, like an island on which they live. The characters are free to do as they wish on the island. The not knowing what the character does until the very moment they do it makes it real. The outcome is never certain, but the results are always more truthful. Thanks for letting me know I’m on the right track.

    I wish you all happiness.

  25. I’ve been absent for a while, but now I remember why I used to love this site. Thank you, I’ll try and check back more often. How frequently you update your web site?

I went on to IIT and then my masters and PhD in the US. I am presently a Scientist.
Sorry, but I just dont have any other means of contacting you.
I hope you will find the time to contact me regarding what we think is a very worthy cause.

  35. Sir,

Why has Indian Cinema not given its due to Female Actors? Even the Government has been miser in rewarding females for their precious contribution to Cinema. In the history of Dada Saheb Phalke Awards, just 6 ladies have been lucky enough to take home the honour. Durga Khote (1983) was the last female actor to receive the coveted honour (Lata & Asha being singers).

It is time that the influential people in the Industry persuaded Government to confer the Award on a lady for her contribution. There are many of them still alive, like Kamini Kaushal, Vayjanti Mala, Mala Sinha, Sadhna, Asha Parikh to name a few.

  36. Dear Shekhar Ji

Usually I do not bother people. However when I saw your blog I found some posts that I agree with. Plunder of natural resources is one such post. If we cannot stop the plunde we can work on the other side of the equation and fill the country with so mcuh that any plunder may not effect the ecosystem.

A month or so ago I started this effort to grow fruit trees in India and with the Monsoon round the corner I wll be thankful if you publish this on your site and support it. If you cannot open the link feel free to copy and paste or weite to me at dranup@live.com or call 732.324.2023 (US)

  38. Cancer Express originates from my home.
I live in Bathinda. The heart of Malwa region of Punjab ! and I am not proud to say that I live there. why should I be???
while traveling from delhi to Bathinda I met a guy from south. he said that he is working in an insecticides comapny. it had to close its factory in south coz people were demonstrating against them. and now shifting to Punjab coz govt is helpful (we all know how) there. even maximum consumption is also there. I felt horrified and ashamed at the same time.
Pesticides are sold like hot cakes. no recommendations by the experts but greedy shopkeepers are selling them
with there prescriptions ! even four to six sprays are done. and this poison goes to the soil and then to the underground water. and slowly to our blood. most of the cancer cases are in the villages where these pesticides are used.
Govt is totally involved with these multinational pesticide companies.
The other major wrong practice followed is giving banned injection to the buffaloes in order to have more milk from them. these poor animals bodies becomes fully toxic. an when they die villagers throw them to an open place where dogs and birds eat them. but now almost all the birds are died because of these poisonous and highly toxic  dead bodies of animals. sparrows have finished coz of eating poisonous grains from the fields.
Third to be discussed is poisonous vegetables and fruits. I have seen my self a farmer giving the same injection to watermelons which they give to the buffaloes. with these injections these fruits and veggies grows very fast and large. but gives poison to us !
In all these three cases only one power works behind and that is…
    MORE, MORE AND MORE….
we want more production, more money more quick !!!!

  39. Hello Mr. Shekhar,

We’ve made a very interesting Indian version of the very famous song, “We Didn’t Start The Fire”, which was originally sung by Billy Joel.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oWHYFhd2QU

We’ve tried to encapsulate the good & the bad of India, and how we Indians still have this one thing in us – HOPE! 🙂

    Hope you enjoy watching it.

    Best Regards,
