  5. Dear Sir
Can you spare your valuable time For TEDxNITRourkela in august 2011?

We would be delighted to discuss with you the possibility of having you join our speaker lineup for our TEDxNITRourkela conference.TEDx is our annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa”. The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers.

  6. “We are the stories we tell ourselves”- i saw this TED. We are students of national institute of technology, rourkela. our student need to open their thoughts, creativity but current education systems made it zero. can you help us to think creatively

  9. Hello Sir/Madam,
    Subject: A suggestion
A Universal Suggestion for screen programs: now usually subtitles flashes on n off on the screen, that distract the viewer from the graphical visuals coz words are compact, strongest n simplest form of text visuals.
I suggest you people try to discover a new way of displaying subtitles like fading or scrolling within to avoid distraction for viewers trying to concentrate on graphical visuals…

  10. Dear Sekhar,
Plz take this mail seriously. This is Biswajit Dhir Deo from Orissa. I am a 27 year old screenplay writer. My screenplay ‘Dilemma’ is getting good responses from the world movie market. The V.P of a Literary Agency in Hollywood loved the work, and gave me a contract. The owner of Hollywood movie company Hassman Entertainment loved the synopsis, and took the screenplay few weeks back. One senior Literary Manager from Hollywood told me he sees ‘Dilemma’ to work universally. He too offered me representation in Hollywood. One international company The Match Factory from Germany loved the synopsis, and took the screenplay last week. An IndoGerman movie production company loved the screenplay, and want to produce it in the next six months. PNC in Bollywood loved the synopsis, and told me to send the screenplay in mid March.

The work is in genre of ‘You Have Got Mail’, ‘Noting Hill’. I am proud of the work. It is better than many so called celebrated romcom movies. I am not arrogant. It’s a fact. I am pissed off because as I am outside of the movie industry and have no contacts, my work is facing problems to get made. It’s so unfair. I am feeling like being a new comer with no connection is a big sin. It’s very unbearable.

Please take this mail seriously and let me submit my work to you.

    To great movies.
    Biswajit

  11. Hi,

I am inquiring about the one episode in ‘Tehkikaat’ which has the fictional character of ‘John Perara.’ I have the proper DVD of Tehkikaat shipped to me in California just two days ago and it contained thirteen (13) episodes but not the one depicting the story line of ‘John Perara.’ I was hoping you would know about this and can send me some information regarding this episode.

    Thanks,

    Rahul

  12. Hi Shekhar,

I’m a student studying Film and TV Production at Buckinghamshire New University here in England and I’m really in search of some work experience 🙂
I’ve tried looking everywhere but I’m really finding it difficult to get anything professional. I have worked on many student films and have a passion for editing. I’m good and enjoy production work, don’t get me wrong and I’m very adaptable about what I do. I consider myself a hard worker and don’t complain about whatever job I have been given. If you could give me any type of experience on any upcoming films you are planning, whether I have to travel how far, I’m willing to do it.

Hopefully, if it’s willed you’ll get back to me 🙂

    Kind Regards,

    Beaumont Loewenthal

I am 75 and busy in revealing truth about netaji Subhash Chandra Bose from 1965 till his death in 1977. You can switch on “netajibosemysteryrevealed.org’. Suresh Padhye is also on facebook. My uncle Mukund Padhye worked in movies before 1935 and when Shobhana Samartha would give shot he wold take kid Nutan in his lap. As my granfather B.G.Khaparde, President of All India Hindumahasabha; became minister in 1935, uncle was recalled as in those days working in movi’s was supposed to degrade family name. On his recomendation Kishor Sahu was sent in movie world. Genetically I have a story of low budget but certain box office all over the world. The nmae of movie would be “OBAMA” = O Ba, Ma + O father, mother. I can find time to sketch the story with your screen witer. The story may invole foreing teen agers also. If you find time give a serious thought to it.

  23. My life is full of regrets: I don’t believe people who claim they have no regrets in life. I wish I hadn’t troubled my parents as much as I did. I wish my first marriage hadn’t broken up. I wish I had made 12, and not six, films. I wish I wasn’t such a thinker. Still, I am a fighter driven by challenges. Yes, I am a very difficult person to live with, but I will always be the way I am…

  26. Hello Mr. Shekhar Kapur.

    Greetings!

I am a big fan of yours. Any new movies coming up? I loved Mr. India during my childhood days back in India. I think I saw you at Centour (?) Hotel in JVPD scheme (?) area in Mumbai three years ago and my uncle pointed out it was you. We shared a glance at each other, but I could not gather courage to come and say hi to you. It would be a pleasure to meet you in person some day.

  27. Hello Mr. Shekhar Kapur,

    Greetings!

Vatsal here again. I plan on doing a 1 yr course in screenplay writing with New York Film Academy while pursuing the MBA portion of my combined MD/MBA degree program. I have a story to share, but I am not well-versed with rules for good screenplay writing. It’s my belief that this course will allow me to achieve this goal and produce a script that meets basic standards for good screenplay writing.

I am not sure if you check messages on this website or respond to them all, given the plethora of messages you might be getting from all kinds of strangers like me. Cognizant about this, I am writing to ask you if you would be willing to have a look at the script when it’s ready. If not, I would truly appreciate you responding with a “no.” A response from you will at least give me an idea whether I should approach you with this topic in future. I won’t be offended by an unfavorable response. Awaiting your response.

    Cordially,
    Vatsal.

  29. Hi,

On the 30th January 1659, Charles Stuart, King of England, Scotland and Ireland stepped onto the scaffold to face his execution after seven years of civil war in his three kingdoms, conflict that resulted in the death of a greater proportion of our population than in the world wars of the 20th Century.

The execution of the King and the preceding war was without doubt one of the most momentous things ever to happen in our country. Why then is it a subject so poorly covered by the film and television industry. The Tudors, and in particular Elizabeth, are the subject of so many films and television series that it seems that every well known actress has put her own slant on Elizabeth’s life.

Your two Elizabeth films are truly amazing, but what of Cromwell, our chief of men, one of our greatest historic figures, who with the support of some amazing, influential contemporaries changed our country for the better – forever. They changed the unthinkable – that we could be ruled by someone outside the elite aristocracy – it was the real beginnings of our Parliamentary system and eventually helped inspire the American colonies to fight for their freedom.

The film ‘Cromwell’, staring Richard Harris, was amazing for its time but surely the time is right to tell the story of the Civil War, Cromwell and the execution of Charles I using modern filming techniques and digital technology, to bring to life someone that should be a hero to all democratically minded people.

You are the person to make this happen; to bring Cromwell to life, to tell one of the greatest stories in our history and to help put him at the forefront of our Nation’s history.

Your films are inspirational – our Nation needs inspiration, direction and a sense of who we are. We are not subjects, we are citizens of a great country – I want our voices to be heard I want us to be truely free. The memory of Cromwell, John Lilbourne and Thomas Raisborough needs to live on, to inspire and help us to realise there is another way – we don’t need to be ruled, we need to be free, we need to have a stake in our Nation, not simply be seen as servants of our ruling aristocratic elite.

Help us to become free through film.

    Thanks for listening

  30. thank u Marshall. I found your post interesting so I posted it s a blog. I hope yo dont mind. Shekhar

  32. Hello Shekarji,

Hope you are doing well. Very long time!

I don’t mean to digress from the most wonderful topics on your blog, but I wanted to write this note to let you know that I have just finished production designing and VFX designing a sci-fi short titled “Worker Drone”. The film premiered on http://www.futurestates.tv on Thursday, April 14, 2011. The film is produced by ITVS (Independent Television Service) in collaboration with CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting).

Worker Drone is a unique initiative for me in many ways. It is a design project that was shot entirely in the digital format (Red Technologies), which took the filmmaking standards to the next level in terms of seamless integration of workflow between all departments, especially the Art Department and Visual Effects – I had the distinct privilege of dealing with both. Next, the project was designed almost entirely in remote collaboration – the Director was in Los Angeles, the Producer in Georgia, the DoP all over the place, and me, in India. I had just one meeting with the Director and Producer (in India) a year ago.

Worker Drone is also a first for my newly launched company Maniratna Mediaworks (MMW), which is a multidisciplinary design studio offering services in architecture, film and entertainment. I’m happy to let you know that, for a 20-25-min film, we designed nearly 15-minutes of CGI and graphics; we followed design processes of the most exacting standards, followed only in Hollywood. It was a thrill ride designing the film!

Sometime ago I remember having read your interesting blog on digital filmmaking and how it has revolutionized the filmmaking process. While I admit I’m yet another cog in the wheel of technology, I’m proud to be part of an indie film project that has taken filmmaking standards to the next level.

The film is now running live on http://www.futurestates.tv, Shekarji, please check it out and let me know your thoughts. Please also check-out all the buzz on Worker Drone on http://www.facebook.com/futurestates and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Worker-Drone/164006113651363 Your feedback will be much valued; do keep in touch!

  33. Shekharji,

As a follow-up to my previous message, please fin herewith the URL for Worker Drone – http://www.futurestates.tv/episodes/worker-drone

The basis of Worker Drone is about how Unmanned Aerial Vehicles become the new standard in military combat of future, and about how all piloted military vehicles are decommissioned – a chilling process that is already being employed in current day militarist strategies!

Worker Drone is live on the http://www.futurestates.tv and can be watched for free…

Looking forward to seeing Paani soon!!

    Best Regards,

  36. Dear Mr. Kapur,

I have recently been in contact with two other distinguished St Stephen’s alumni, Ramachandra Guha and Gopalkrishna Gandhi, about a play I have conceived. Both men have given their esteemed approval of the project – The Durbar – please see website address attached for more information. The play brings to life a series of visions happening in the mind of Charles Freer Andrews in 1922.

I would dearly love to tell you more about the idea, having just seen you on TV in an interview at Cannes. There was something about the way you spoke and the look in your eyes that made me want to tell you more. Then I saw you attended St. Stephen’s yourself, as did our hero Charles Freer Andrews, known to Indians as Deenabandhu; this was enough to make me try to make a connection.

I see this comments section is full of pundits like myself, but I have faith that you actually take the time to peruse these cries for recognition! Please send an email to the address attached and I will send one back throwing all my cards on the electronic table. Thereafter I promise not to bother you!

    Kind regards, Antony
