Paani

Today another dream was rekindled. Paani. A film that has lived in my consciousness for almost 5 years, when I watched 50 women and children standing in the hot sun in Mumbai. Each carrying a bucket waiting for a tap to start dripping with water.

Paani means Water in Hindi.
I had just come down from a friends place in Pali Hill, one of the more expensive residential areas in Mumbai. My friend had me waiting for half an hour while he showered. He lived on the 30th floor, and the slum where there was no water was just below his apartment building.
This inequity in the most basic resource neccessary for human survival set me thinking and a story developed.
More later…

  1. It’s laborious to seek out knowledgeable folks on this subject, however you sound like you already know what you’re talking about! Thanks

  2. I hope Mr. Kapur not only brings out the issues with clean water, population growth, global warming, glacier’s melting (Himalayan, etc.), people/animals/organisims dieing due to insufficient or polluted drinking water in countries such as Africa/India/etc., acid rain caused by emissions, insufficient water to grow food, nuclear waste polluting water, but really makes us think about what we as humans are doing to our race by messing up the entire system of earth and it’s environment that has been going forward for billions of years. Just within the past 260 years we have caused so much pollution that we haven’t left enough clean water for future generations. Water is the key to human survival.

I guess as long as one organism survives in this world, the human race or some type of an animal race will begin again perhaps using a different resource on earth. Perhaps it will use CO2 for breathing instead of Oxygen and raw polluted soil for food instead of water.

I hope this movie is just not a movie for entertainment but to make a person think about what’s has been going on, what is going on, and what will be going on in the future regarding water and survival for all forms of life. I hope it causes some type of a spark within me.

    Thanks for reading,
    John
