“The most beautiful and most profound experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms – this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness. ( Albert Einstein – The Merging of Spirit and Science) — ”
Thank you manav, for sharing this. It’s beautifully put by a person who’s brain is under constant study by scientists all over the world. But maybe Einstein accessed his equations from a source much higher then his own individuality, his own brain ? Is creativity the ability to access a source of universal consciousness ?
This makes me think of a joke about Beethoven that was told to me by my accountant back in the 1980s.
One day the young Ludwig van Beethoven was in a rather unpleasant mood. His creativity was blocked and he was trying to write a symphony. He comes into the kitchen and his mother is there preparing German noodles in a huge pot. She asks him to dispose of the trash under the sink.
And Beethoven says to her moodily, “Mother, I can’t be bothered until I find an idea for my new symphony.”
And she turns on him and says, “Symphony Schimphony!….Da, da, da, Daaah…Da, da, da, Daaah!
There’s your theme…now take out the garbage!”
Someone asked Juan Gris, “How do you know when one of your cubistic paintings is finished.” And Juan Gris answered: “I ask my wife.”
So there you have it….
