Hi Shekhar,
Just wanted to drop a note to say it was your uncle Dev Anand’s 85 birthday yesterday. A truly amazing man purely for his unputdownable spirit and his ability to do what we keep discussing on this blog.. to seperate effort from fruits. To work with a sense of detachment to the outcome. Truly a wondrous life!
My little tribute to him here

Cheers
Ritu
Cheers indeed..but if you want to see the ultimate state of detachment, you might want to check out the non-guru of Dev Anandji’s brother Vijay Anand -> U G Krishnamurti Oh boy..we have such divinity amongst us, but cannot recognize it.

Happpppy Happy Birthday to our Beloved Dev Anand
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough & more
It turn denial into acceptance,
chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
Gratitude makes sense of our past,
brings peace for today
&
creates a vision for tomorrow
In appreciation of our association
during this short life
we extend our
love, life, laughter
forever.
Yeh Janam Din aap ko bahut bahut muabark ho…
Hum sabh ki yeh hi dua hai
aap jiyon millions saal, aur saal ke din ho millions…
Wishing you our most Beloved all the best in this life
jo bhi pyaar se mila, hum usi ke ho liye…
🙂

Truly, Navketan films right upto Tere Mere Sapne were a collective expression of the finest talent pool available to Hindi cinema and it was who Dev Anand brought them all together. He had an eye for talent. Slowly it all petered away but the music remained hummable even in the later films like Censor.
Vijay Anand and SD Burman are the ones who need to be remembered whenever we think of the eternal melodies that came from the banner(RD Burman later was great, but he could not capture the soul of Burmanda). Music is something that is so subtle that many a times its nuances can only be discerned and absorbed by the mind and not represented on screen. When you hear a deeply introspective song like ‘Wahan kaun hai tera’ you cannot imagine anyone could depict the soul of the song on celluloid. Yet, Vijay Anand does it and he does it again for ‘Piya Tose Naina Laage Re’. It was an amazing synergy between these two artists.
Let me sign off with my current favourite Dev Anand song. It is not picturised on him, but is from his film, the lesser known ‘House no 44’ and somehow to me represents the spirit of Dev Anand. The song is such that it never ceases to lift you off into the sky. ‘Phaili Hui Hain Sapno Ki Baahen’. Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi, Music: Sachin Dev Burman.
Here is the link. Enjoy!

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear, dear Uncle Dev.Now this is from another family member…someone who has spent a few memorable evenings with him when many other of his nephews…many many years younger than him, have also been present.
His presence, his energy, his zest for life and above all his completly unique style,is to be experienced to know that he truly is a “STAR”.He does’nt sell advertisements and commercials to get that Big Dev added to his name!
Anyway, getting back to these memorable evenings which stretched beyond dinner time, had most nephews yawning but not the indefatigable Uncle Dev who would be so full of life.Carry on Uncle Dev–GOD’S BLESSINGS AND KNOW THAT this “Star”is loved.
