Seeing

i see,
and yet,
i seek
that which i see,

when the seeking ends,
and the veil is lifted
in what i see,
lies the simplicity
of all existence

  1. Beautiful 🙂
I want to ask you something Shekhar, does too much of analysis ever frustrate you specially when there is no scope? It’s something that I have been asked to ponder upon but then I wonder, if I won’t analyse I wouldn’t be myself…

  2. dude…
    kya baat kahi hai…lajawaab!!!
MASSOM and BANDIT QUEEN are my most favorite films only because of this one point…SIMPLICITY!!!
as a writer now i am (as a group) working with professionals in bollywood(body wood).
but the most imp thing is that i am about to shoot my first short film as a director. well, a bit commercial in the sense a known face might act in that etc. etc.
the thing is that when i was revisiting the script which i have written i realized that there is too much dynamism in it. i realized, i want to impress others with my skill… i was so pissed of for last few days…
i was thinking WHY THE HELL I CAN SEE THE CAMERA all the time when i am visualizing this film as a viewer?
why i am not able to tell it more simplistically…and i was thinking this while doing the shot breakdown.
of course i was not going to change the script but then i was thinking, is it happening because the way it has been written? and i realized…NO…it is because the way i am visualizing it… yes, script has been written in a very dynamic style… three different time zones( not time periods) and inter cuts and jump cuts and pre lap sounds according to the emotional graph of the story etc…but that was not the reason i was seeing the camera and its movement as a predominant factor, all the time… and then i revised the whole shot break down ( i could do it because i personally believe in a very designed kind of films and not much fluid scripts) in a way where i wont feel the camera while i am watching the film happening on the paper…
i said to myself OK…now i have chosen this dynamic form of narrating this particular story and now how i can treat it so that the camera and its movement wont be predominant! how i can treat it so that the audience will be so engrossed and will not be distracted because of the camera in spite of dynamic form? how i can design it so that only the aesthetic cuts in the script will be the only dynamism and not the camera work? How? how ? how i can be more SIMPLISTIC in my approach?
and i realized that literally i have to shade away my EGO to certain extent to be simplistic in my approach as far as choosing and deciding the shots…rather while deciding the whole movement on the screen!
now i don’t know how exactly the out come will be…but atleast on paper i am at peace with myself as far as this story is concerned.
i am just sharing this because this has been the major event in my life for past few days and now i am out of it…and then i read this blog of yours and i was so happy to read it…i was so happy to read about SIMPLICITY…i was seeking something while visualizing the film…i had to end it…it had to end and then i was able to treat it, at least on the paper, in a much simpler way!
thank you very much for being a part of my illusion!!!
    take care…tata…kedar…
    PS:
what i am trying to say i will share with an example-
In MASOOM, Naseer and Saeed jaffery are searching for the kid on the streets at night. and Naseer feels that he has seen the boy in the car which just passed…or something like that and he runs towards the car and its a sharp turn and there is a foot path with palm tress and Naseer runs towards the car…its a complete dynamic scene …and what i essentially recall about that scene is the camera movement…
the whole film is subtle and simplistic but this is the most dynamic scene as far as camera is concerned. but of course it went with the whole emotion.
but i was seeing camera like this in each and every shot of mine in the short film…and hence i was pissed of…well…i hope i have conveyed my point…so i will stop…but thank you very much again for this blog entry…this time i could relate to it on more practical fronts!!!

  3. What if you aren’t seeing it, but only think you are?
What if you aren’t seeking it, but only think you are?
And what if you think you’ve found it
    But haven’t really…
    how would you even know?

  4. u would know, GJ. For the first time you would really be seeing with a clarity you had never know before. Shekhar

  5. i see,
    and yet,
    i seek
that which i (cannot) see (with my open eyes),
    when the seeking ends,
and the veil (of ego) is lifted
in what i see (with my closed eyes but open minded consciousness),
lies the simplicity (oneness, eternity, and omniprsence)
of all existence (one and only one wholesome truth – the universal consciousness)
But then there is no more i who was the seeker. The seeker becomes the seer who is now also the seen and the sought.

  6. rudra, if u have seen clarity then u never forget it. and no, it is not the carrying of illusions and fanatasies to the other side, it is the ability to ‘see’ beyond illusion and fantasy.
there is a state of being when u are seeing’ with clarity. the real work begins when u have seen clarity and then move towards making that state of ‘being’ a constant,

  7. Not seeking is like suspending belief and disbelief and just being an observer. It’s the closest to clarity I can be.
In the real world, we are seeking some things or to be away from some things, without which we won’t be productive.
It’s a challenge to balance contemplation and action.

  8. Dear Shekhar ji
if what we see is what we seek do you mean to say we do not recognise it that point of time…. or is it done out of the fear of commiting or confessing… i wish i could get the answer fpr this …
    Traveller

  9. lonely traveller, I mean that we seek to interpret beyond the existence of ‘what is’. We seek to satisfy our own ego in what we see, either to fear or fullfilment. We seek affirmation, analysis, and allow the past and the future to interfere with pure ‘seeing’. Yet I find it difficult to put this into words of prose, as every word is contradictory.
Whic is why a poem is so mch better for it evokes questioning rather than answers,
    shekhar

  10. Interpreting beyond the existence of what is… seeing what we want to see and nothing else… poetry is incongruous … thats why it is poetry… and you do it so well….

  11. If Am the answer why do I question….
My God, Everything starts from you
    In you, with you
All that is called good, all that is called bad
    Everything significant, Everything insignificant
Everything rests and comes to life through your word
Why the choices when you know what’s right
Why the confusion, why the delineation
I lost the answer I had as a child
I need to find you to find the truth
    I climb on a mount
The mount of my Experience , reasons
    and all that there is
Trying to reach you ,trying to understand
The journey was tough,The path was steep
But I need to redeem myself even if it means death
My eyes are swollen,Iam hungry and Lost
The thunders scare me and I howled
Help me Iam dying ,Carry me I can’t walk
Then I heard his whisper that made me whole
Content and happy I listened to his voice
    Come down my beloved
Iam right there where you started
Look within and you will find there is no past
Break the reasons that trick you
Break the experiences that snare you
The mount melted when I dared to throw the past
I saw his eyes and I saw myself
The kingdom of God is in you ,with you ,around you
My child ,Everything starts from you
    In you, with you
All that is called good, all that is called bad
    Everything significant, Everything insignificant
Everything rests and comes to life through your word
Now tell me my dear Child
Why the choices when you know what’s right
Why the confusion, why the delineation.
