As I sit here
as I often do
waitng for the first blush of blue
to lighten the dark of the sky
a moment so traqnquill
that God insists on teasing us with it
snatching it away
to remind us of the day ahead
I wonder
where is my inner voice
does it lie in the sounds of the birds twittering ?
does it lie in the gradual changing of the shades of blue
does it lie in the gentle breeze that lifts to rejoice the new day ?
how can it lie merely within me ?
and as I watch the first shade of pink emerge
in a cloud so soft
like a new born baby
how arrogant of me to try and listen for a voice
coming from inside my head
of even my soul, if there ever be one
for if there be such a thing
as an inner voice
than surely it must be shared
by the first blue of the sky
by the first pink of the clouds
by the first singing of the birds
Beautiful. Wonderfully expressed, like a painting of dawn captured in a few strokes of the brush. And the emotions expressed by a few key notes of music.
I was amazed to know that you’ve been blogging for 3 years yet it was only a few weeks back I stumbled here. A lot of catching up to do on the archives here. 🙂
I saw ‘Masoom’ only once on tv long back, yet it still remains strong in memory, with all those ‘lump-in-the-throat’ moments intact. Never thought I could send a thankyou note directly, yet, here it is. Thanks for that wonderful movie. Here’s wishing more power to your art[and your keyboard too ;-)]
when u wonder where your inner voice is we get a poem which sounds like the inner voice of a soul living in synchro destiny .
To be able to see.
And then shape into words.
So that we can see.
Isn’t that something rare, precious ?
Is there is a label for it or not, I don’t know.
Nature speaks to us in the most intimate and provoking ways. If only we can make more time in our lives to stop and listen. Shekhar, this is beautiful and very inspiring… thanks for sharing. Curious to know where you were while writing this 🙂

Shekhar ji this one is really from the ‘inner voice’. I can feel it. As we all share it too. thanks.

Shekhar…

acha nahi lag raha…
BahOo!
Inspirational Shekhar! Missed seeing your blogs for many days! So glad to see you back amongst the living
The inner voice is about oneness and harmony for me, blends ever so naturally with everything, brings in its wake peace and stillness, vibrancy and colour, heaven and bliss. Its a path we all tread on in some depth or superficiality, seeking- the inner voice.
DQ, not sure why tht is happening, I am pretty good at making sure that only junk mail gets deleted, but sometimes when i do not have computer access or am travelling, my web admin ensures that comments get posted, will check . sorry, shekhar
There is a subtle difference between the soul and Soul. The soul is the Soul attached to one’s individuality and the Soul is the soul when the individual has finally transcended his individuality by experiencing the Oneness or indistinguishability of all and has thus realised his basic identity beyond inner and outer, beyond space and time.
Likewise the voice will seem to be coming from inside so long as the individual identifies with his mind-body and beyond inside and outside when he transcends identification with the mind-body.
Inner voice can be the voice of reason when you are in the phase of love/hate in youth – when your emotions say one thing but your reason from still deeper within seems to say an other; the inner voice can be the voice of intelligence/intuition/wisdom when your reason says one thing but your intelligence or deeper heart says an other.
The same voice can be beyond the distinction of inner/outer when you have transcended all phases and are now living more like a child or a sage.
Now something from within can seem to prompt you to do something now something from without. Look at a baby, how he/she is acting. Sometimes just directed by the inner voice/force he will begin moving ahead…sometimes he will see something in front and will move towards it. Both now act as his ‘inner’ voices.
So Shekhar,it depends upon at which state/stage you are and depending upon it could be even from the last red of the sky, last song of the homeward bound birds or from within or without.
Harb
thanks for sharing thoughts of your inner voice:)
Shekhar, not sure if my last post got you left you with the thought on ‘inner voice’ which led to this post. Lovely if so and wud be great to know if that was the case !
Listen as you do
to the one
you wake up with
to the one
who has not changed
with experience, with time,
the one to whom
all the thoughts..happen
all the emotions..feel
all else..occurs
the unchanging constant
you know so intimately
and need to effort to remember
the one in whom life
mirrors itself effortlessly
listen..closely
does it need to speak?
to whom – if so?
A moment of peace that can stay with us the entire day like an anchor of stillness one can dive into when thoughts get too crowded. It reminds us how beautiful life is if we allow it to breathe in the beauty of creation around us. The voice in this space is a melody, timeless and enchanting, a small fortune to savor rather than become just another part of our myriad morning musings.
Shekah,
I want to know if you are working on any new films.
My reason for asking is that I would love to work with you in some capacity. Would love to talk in depth but i’m a writer director, currently working in advertising. I am not living and want to start.
Today.
thx.

As Harb wrote the difference between soul and the Soul, maybe we can call the Soul as the Supreme soul. I think Shekharji is here relating from his Supreme soul.
I wonder

does it lie in the sounds of the birds twittering ?

does it lie in the gentle breeze that lifts to rejoice the new day ?

When he sees that his inner self is blended with the nature that shows his soul has transcended and has experienced the Oneness. I would like to share something that I experienced recently.
I am a south Indian, hardly know the person Shekhar Kapur. I have seen him twice in Isha Ashram during Shivratri festival. Last year I was telling my sister in law I came to see some celebrities there, one among them is Shekhar Kapur. She said he is a famous director. I said “OHH”. And this year I again I got to see him during the function. Something strange happened, I didnt see Shekharji, but a soul, well we can say the Soul…it was good to look at the Soul in him. I am a spiritual healer, did a healing course in London where I was trained to get connected to the souls of human beings and heal them. I have been doing this past one year that I get to know my clients by talking to their souls rather than directly to them. I have sensed souls during the healing sessions and for the first time in my life I started seeing a person in the Soul form. I was awed and kept watching him. That same night Sadhguru during his speech said he used to see the people in his family when he was young, in the form of energy and not as human forms. It seemed like a coicidence for me. After coming back home I started to find about him on web and found a lot of details about him. I have seen Elizabeth and didnt know it is his movie. Gradually I am getting to know him as a human being.
Dear Shekhar,
My inner voice says that for PANNI you’ll be double the director you were with Bandit Queen.
I was wondering whether you’ve really been a scuba-diving instucter as someone wrote somewhere on this blog.
Regards,
harijim
very beautiful Shekar…thank you..
I am searching for my inner voice or should I stop searching?
Simply expressed, such a beautiful thought. Especially loved,
“how arrogant of me to try and listen for a voice
coming from inside my head”
Deepak Ravindra, the same thought came to my mind, that Shekhar got the idea of his ‘inner voice’ post by reading about it in your post. So may be what you guess could be true though finally it is Shekhar who really knows.
Thank You ‘Shekhar’ for thy efforts…
Tis difficult to be royal and humble

I restored my details again here in this website…thinking maybe sumone must have done some computer magic and frozen me…

Read your post titled “The Inner Voice”. I guess you have read RUMI… but if you havent (for any reason).. and forgive me this presumption… please read RUMI. His Masnavi (in 3 Volumes) translated by R.A. Nicholson (Cambridge)., and also by American William Chittick… also read Annemarie Schimmel on Rumi. You will not regret it. RUMI is the destination., Shekhar. Come on, walk the path.
The inner voice is rather heard when one stops searching it in the head and lets that voice use one’s body to act it out. While the head acts as a filter to that inner voice and removes its wilder and non-sociable parts.
Then from cognition of one’s own self-surprising action(speaking, writing)does one infer that inner voice.
Yes It is there but while the birds just chirp we chirp and then think and then suspend the thought to chirp some more and then think again…in one big life-long continuum.
while the birds are like a free flowing river we are like dam reservoirs releasing little in a channelised manner whose time has come and adding little more in the reservoir whose time will come one day.
Hi Shekharji,
Is there anything called inner voice?.. Can we hear it if we listen…I have experienced something seemed stillness.. Emptiness is filled with something.. and that something is emptiness, so in utter meditative stillness.. in that silence, there is a music..that is my inner voice..my inner music..
I would like to quote Osho
“Silence is usually understood to be something negative, something empty, an absence of sound, of noises. This misunderstanding is prevalent because very few people have ever experienced silence. All they have experienced in the name of silence is noiselessness. But silence is a totally different phenomenon. It is utterly positive. It is existential, it is not empty. It is overflowing with a music that you have never heard before, with a fragrance that is unfamiliar to you, with a light that can only be seen with the inner eyes. It is not something fictitious; it is a reality, and a reality which is already present in everyone – just we never look in. All our senses are extrovert. Our eyes open outside, our ears open outside, our hands move outside, our legs… all our senses are meant to explore the ouside world”.
“This silence that I have been talking about is the silence of the heart. It is a song in itself, without words and without sounds. It is only out of this silence that the flowers of love grow. It is this silence that becomes the garden of Eden. Meditation, and only meditation, is the key to open the doors of your own being”
