Oh Kashmir ! Yasin Malik at India Today Enclave

Was speaking at the India Today Enclave with Amir Khan. But then attended a panel where Yasin Malik was speaking. For those that do not remember, Yasin was at one time the leader of the most feared terrorist group in Kashmir. Now he is a political leader looking for peace and reconciliation with India and Pakistan, because he believes that the future of the youth of Kashmir depends upon the two nations coming to terms. But he still supports the right of the Kashmiri’s to decide on their own future, even if it meant an independent Kashmir. A few years ago if he was seen in Delhi he would been shot in sight by the armed forces. So full marks to India Today for having the courage to bring such disparate views on the same platform as Finance Minister Chidambaram, and even on the same dias as a member of India’s Parliament…

… but second, Yasin delivered a completely impassioned and moving speech about the state of the youth in Kashmir, their fears and aspirations, their desire for better leadership. He also spoke of his own life, his fleeing form the armed forces, capture, solitary confinement and of the friends that he lost in the fighting. And how he realized now that if everything needed to be achieved it could only be done through negotiation and reconcilliation. It was a moving moving speech. No one asked him any questions (after all there was Priety Zinta on the Dias too !) and so I did one :
” Have you forgiven ?”
And he said there was absolutely no other way. At the end of the speech he walked over to me and gave me a big genuine hug and said thank you. Invited me to come and speak to the youth of Kashmir, including those that were terrorists once.
As he left, a young girl came to me brimming with anger. Along with a man who worked with India Today. Both were kashmiri Pundits who had seen themselves ousted forcibly and sometimes cruelly from their homeland. I have met many Kashmiri Pundit’s- some of them my friends who believe they are truly the forgotten people. The young girl was as moving as Yasin as she held back her tears, andgry that Yasin was allowed this platform without the audience being told of the atrocities that he and his comrades perpetuated on Kashmiri Pundits. I coudl totally see her point of view.
Later as I was having tea with Priety Zinta she also expressed apprehensions about being on the same platform as Yasin. her father died in the Army and her brother has been fighting and risking his life in Kashmir.
O Kashmir ! Once the paradise without the beauty of which no Hindi film was complete. Who’s people people were once considered the gentlest and the most beautiful. The vision of kashmir was that of little girls with baby sheep in their arms waving as you drove by. And who could forget the Kashmiri Shawl wala that went from one Punjabi household to another bring news of long lost friends ? Ofcouse cleverly outnegotiating my mother while she was lost in emotion !
What happened ?
I think there will never be a solution in Kashmir if there is no forgiveness. Like the Truth and Reconcilliation process and South Africa. India and Pakistan must come to terms with each other and accept the current division as permanent. Of course it is permanent ! Pakistan and India must let go of using kashmir as the excuse to fight each other. Neither nation can afford it in any case.
I do not see an Independant Kashmir as a viable state. I do not agree with Yasin there. In the current political unrest, stuck as it is between some of the most explosive political arena’s in the world, Kashmir will be engulfed in the turmoill of it’s neighboring states.
It’s time to bring peace back to Kashmir. It is time to bring back the romanticism of ‘Kashmir ki Kali’. It is time to enfold Kashmir in the process of economic development that Inda is going through,
Agreed ?

  1. Did you read this article in Times of India,
Omar Abudallah says ” Muslims were quiet as Pandits were killed and fled ”
    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/Muslims_silent_as_Pandits_fled_Omar/articleshow/3043605.cms
Yasin malik was one of those muslims, who was quiet when pandits were killed..
Who ever said, MODI IS the next PM of India.
your right on the money.. their is nothing like narendra modi in all of hindustan politicians today.. that man is my hero… just like shekar kapur is.

  2. Terrorism is day by day becoming a diseases if today it will not be cured strictly it will become curse for the whole peace loving people
The more cruel the more inhumane the action is , the more terrorism needs the TV Media to make an impression on its targets and put over its messages practically in real time with a world wide awareness .Similarly those televisions studios draw benefits from the unbearable and inhumane images they broadcast .Today television & terrorism form a diabolical duo which is making our struggle more & more difficult .This is an irreversible fact that we will have to take cute account in our future .
The terrorist enterprises are criminal enterprises like any other .They operate according the rules of market with the horizontal or vertical integration.
However we need to begin by taking in consideration the stock of problems that are still pending first of which is debate on the definition of the word terrorism .As we know one of the most lapidary definitions used by Press & Philosophy which is without meaning is to state that the terrorist is always considered as freedom fighter (militant )
This thing has given wrong message between the people of particular religion that If we become terrorist we are fighting a battle for the religion .
This is important for all the human being to stop terrorism spreading in means of way .The Media has to say NO to the news of the terrorists and to define them as militants .
If we will flash their New they re gaining popularity and are getting what they don’t .
Every newspaper & electronic media is very interested to cover the news of those anti nationalist .
Now the position is this that the students of today don’t know who is the Prime minister of the country but they are well aware that who is Osama Bin Laden who is Yasin malik etc .The patriotisms is dying and the anti nationalists are raining .
Also our intelecutals are behind the rise of terrorism as they are giving them platform to speak why the voice of terrorist is allowed to blow but the voice of patriotics has been ignored and made dumb and silent .

  3. Dear Shekhar
I wish you manage a visit to Kashmir and live the life of a common man for few days then you will understand the whole issue.
Kashmiris were betrayed always both by India and pakistan.
We are demanding what Nehru had promised……..

  4. Dear Shekhar
Rizwana of post 152 claims that they are demanding what Nehru had promised……..
The unfortunate part of our countries independence was that Nehru became the first Prime minister of India instead of Sardar Patel. The appeaser kept appeasing first Mountbatten’s wife /Mountbatten. Nehru along with fickle minded sheikh Abdullah made mess of straight forward things. I need not count the failures of Nehru and Abdullah. Irony of whole thing is Nehru & Abdullah’s progenies think that they are post British royalties.
Latest Omar Abdullah grand son of Sheikh Abdullah , Former Union Minister in Indian Cabinet and current President of J&K National Conference did finally accept Kashmiri hindus were driven out of their homes when his father was chief minister of J&K.
Omar, a youth leader who has taken to Blogging would have never imagined that his Blogging could have made such news. And this time it was with reference to his observation of the role played by Muslims in Kashmir during the exodus of Kashmiri Hindu minorities from Kashmir in 1990.
On May 14th., Omar quotes ” Its so easy to say that we””””ll lay down our lives to bring Kashmiri pandits back to the valley and I appreciate the sentiment as I””””m sure the Kashmiri Pandits reading it will. Pity that sentiment was missing when our mosques were being used to drive these people out. None of us was willing to stand up and be counted when it mattered. None of us grabbed the mikes in the mosques and said this is wrong and the Kashmiri Pandits had every right to continue living in the valley. Our educated, well to do relatives and neighbours were spewing venom twenty four hours a day and we were mute spectators either mute in agreement or mute in abject fear, more often than not it was muteness driven by fear because the guns turned against the Pandits found their target elsewhere as my party workers found, but mute none the less.
Pseudo intellectual’s secularist and communist forget that country with help of congress party along with mahatma Gandhi let their mother land be divided on the name of religion. They forget that India is democratic country were law of the land and its constitution is supreme. India needs uniform law for all its citizens. British are gone but their policy of divide and rule are still working look what is happening with reservations again a temporary clause in the constitution how our corrupt vote bank politicians over used it and keep creating new cast system of (SC, ST, OBC, Delit so on and so forth) One wonders how long will this go on. Poor economically deprived classes in today’s India are still deprived……one can go on and on…..
I am adding fallowing article for your readers reading pleasure and let them ponder over it..
    Thanks

    Terrorist infiltrations and Article 370
    -Himanshu Shekhar Jha, Organiser
The continuation of Article 370 under whose cover the state of Jammu & Kashmir enjoys a special status, is totally unjustified and it is within the power of the President of India to make it inoperative.
An Indian citizen who is an ordinary resident of Jammu & Kashmir is not allowed to contest elections there. Does it not show that Jammu & Kashmir has become virtually an oligarchic state?
The incorporation of Article 370 in the Constitution of India was a purely temporary measure, but even after the lapse of nearly 60 years it continues to operate as a mandate of the state. It may be recalled that only within a few days of Partition, Pakistan waged a proxy war against India to grab Kashmir. It took the plea that the attack had been launched by the Azad Kashmir Forces. Pakistan had attacked on October 24, 1947.
Maharaja Hari Singh signed an Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947 and empowered the Union of India to have absolute jurisdiction in respect of three subjects namely defence, foreign affairs and communication.
In executing the said Instrument the Maharaja’s sole object was to save his state from the onslaught of Pakistan and her allies.
It was jointly decided that the final decision from which there would be no change regarding accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India would be taken by the Constituent Assembly and till that is done the state will have a special status. In order to grant that special status stipulated in the Instrument of Accession a purely temporary provision was made by incorporating Article 370 in the Constitution of India. After the execution of the Instrument of Accession the Constituent Assembly was convened by the people of Jammu & Kashmir on the seventeenth day of November 1956 whereby they adopted, enacted and gave to themselves a new constitution which they called the Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir.
In this context the most important point to remember is that according to the agreement between the erstwhile ruler of Jammu & Kashmir and the Union of India the final decision regarding accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India was taken on November 17, 1956 by the Constituent Assembly which made a written commitment in the Preamble to its newly framed Constitution that Jammu & Kashmir was an integral part of India.
In order to clear all doubts in this regard Article 3 of the said constitution also clearly and definitely stated, “The state of Jammu & Kashmir is and shall be an integral part of the Union of India.”
Thus all controversies regarding accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India automatically came to an end.
There was no question of retaining Article 370 in the Constitution after the Constituent Assembly acting on behalf of the people of Jammu & Kashmir finally decided that Jammu & Kashmir was an integral part of India. The matter ended there for good and the only task left before the Centre was, and still is, to amend the Constitution for abrogating Article 370 and to repeal the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir which grants special status to that state.
The constitution of Jammu & Kashmir has created a state with its own flag within the sovereign State of India. Jammu & Kashmir has not only its separate flag, it has a separate constitution and distinct official language.
It is an anomalous situation which ought to have been removed the day it had arisen. If it is allowed to continue it will accelerate destabilisation not only in the state of Jammu & Kashmir but in the whole of India. It is true that when the Constituent Assembly representing the people of Jammu & Kashmir had taken the final decision regarding the accession of that state to India and the Constitution thereof had also proclaimed that “the State of Jammu & Kashmir is and shall be an integral part of the Union of India” (Article 3), the Centre took no action to make the guaranteed integration real. Instead of abrogating Article 370 and abolishing special status of Jammu & Kashmir by annulling its unconstitutional constitution the Nehru government evolved the obnoxious and unwise policy of appeasement of Muslims in the Kashmir valley and thus committed the blunder of making a non-issue an issue. It is also true that the subversive elements were active even at that time, both in Pakistan and India, but who prevented the then Prime Minister Nehru to crush them with the help of the armed forces which were always at his disposal. Nehru went on committing one blunder after another. Even today the Centre is pursuing the same cowardly and conciliatory policy towards the enemy.
Article 370, which according to part XXI of the Constitution of India, was a temporary, transitional and special provision ought to have been firmly annulled either by invoking Presidential power under Clause (3) of the same Article or through constitutional amendment under Article 368 read with Article 355.
When the Instrument of Accession was executed on October 26, 1947 and the Constituent Assembly acting on behalf of the people of Jammu & Kashmir accorded final sanction to the said accession on November 17, 1956 the Kashmir chapter was closed for ever for the supreme good of both the Hindu and Muslim masses. Why was a closed and concluded matter made a subject of controversy again?
Clause (3) of Article 370 of the Constitution of India clearly states, “Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this article the President may, by public notification, declare that this article shall cease to be operative only with such exceptions and modifications and from such date as he may specify.”
The Proviso added to the said Clause that “the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly of the State referred to in Clause (2) shall be necessary before the President issues such a notification” has become ineffective and cannot act as a constitutional bar to Presidential proclamation for the simple reason that it is no more in existence. The question of its consent, therefore, does not arise. The erstwhile Constituent Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir has been replaced by the Legislative Assembly. Article 46 of the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir states, inter alia, that “there shall be a legislature for the state which shall consist of … two Houses to be known respectively as the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.”
The word “New Kashmir” which occurs in Article 13 of the Jammu & Kashmir constitution does not and cannot mean independent Kashmir. It only means “better Kashmir” whose prime object would be the promotion of the mass of the people by establishing a socialist society free from all exploitation of man by man.
From the perusal of these facts it becomes abundantly clear that the continuation of Article 370 under whose cover the state of Jammu & Kashmir enjoys a special status, is totally unjustified and it is within the power of the President of India to make it inoperative.
It should never be forgotten that Article 370 incorporated in the Constitution of India at the behest of Nehru has become a strong shield of protection in the hands of terrorists and their patron the state government. It is due to this mischievous Article which gives special status to Kashmir that more than 3000,000 Kashmiri Pandits comprising 78,000 families, have been forced to leave the Kashmir valley and live a miserable life as refugees in their own country.
Article 370 has been used to build political oligarchy in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Although the Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir talks of liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship no such thing exists there in practice.
After the formulation of Operation Topic by the then dictator of Pakistan Zia-ul-Haque in November 1987 a reign of terror was unleashed in Kashmir which continues unabated even today.
In the very beginning of the said operation more than 800 Kashmiri Hindus, 100 non-Kashmiri Hindus and a number of Sikhs had been reportedly killed in the most callous manner. The mass attack on the Hindus had begun in a pre-planned manner in January 1990. It culminated in gangrape, kidnapping, loot, arson and murder in the most unthinkable manner as time rolled on. Poor and innocent people belonging to Hindu community were butchered like beasts. The servants of Satan masquerading as messengers of Allah gangraped a school teacher working at Bandipora and subsequently sliced her on a mechanical saw. Neither the Centre, nor the State government took any meaningful measure to nab the culprits and punish them.Sporadic attacks had started as early as February 1986 when, according to authentic reports, 56 temples and 150 houses were burnt in a single day and more than 1500 houses belonging to Hindus were looted.
All these calamities would have been easily averted had the centre taken pre-emptive action by giving army a free hand after giving a deathblow to the special status to Jammu & Kashmir on the basis of its own constitution as well as on the grounds already existing in the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir referred to above in the foregoing paragraphs.
Article 370 and the resultant special status of the state of Jammu & Kashmir have given rise to many anomalies. Article 5 of the Indian Constitution recognises only one type of citizenship but the so-called constitution of Jammu & Kashmir accords recognition to a particular category of citizens whom it designates as permanent residents.
In view of the fact that as per entry 15 of the first schedule of the Constitution of India, Jammu & Kashmir is a state of this country and every citizen of this sovereign state called Bharat’ ipso facto becomes a citizen of that state too and is entitled to reside and settle there and hold property to carry on any occupation, trade or business.
But the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir makes unlawful discrimination between permanent residents defined in Article 6 and others who are citizens of India within the meaning of Article 5 of the Constitution of India.
Due to this anachronistic law a citizen of India who is not a permanent resident of the sate of Jammu & Kashmir faces great difficulties in the enjoyment of his fundamental rights there.
An Indian citizen who is an ordinary resident of Jammu & Kashmir is not allowed to contest elections there. Does it not show that Jammu and Kashmir has become virtually an oligarchic state run by Muslims although both the constitutions i.e. the Constitution of India and the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir unequivocally declare that it is an integral part of India?
There is no doubt that all these legalistic problems arise only because of the special status granted to this anachronistic state by incorporating Article 370 in part XXI of the Constitution of India.
The moment this mischievous Article is abrogated and the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir is annulled by an all of Parliament followed by a non-communal government with a strong will and arms to eradicate terrorism from the valley comprising three regions, all these baffling problems will be solved and the valley will be no more a place for terrorists to indulge in heinous crimes and deadly sins in the name of religion and God.
There are two options for the abrogation of Article 370.
The first option is to invoke Presidential power exercisable under that Article itself. Article 370 lays down: “Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this Article the President may, by public notification, declare that this Article shall cease to be operative or shall be operative. Only with such exceptions and modifications and from such date as he may specify. Provided that the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly of the state referred to in clause (2) shall be necessary enforce the President issues such a notification.”The consent of the Constituent Assembly of the state of Jammu & Kashmir for the exercise of the Presidential power is not required because the said Constituent Assembly is no more in existence.
The other efficacious remedy is to abrogate Article 370 and declare the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir null and void being ultra vires the Constitution of India by amending the Constitution under Article 368 read with Article 13(2) and Article 355.
Since the very day India was declared to be a Sovereign Republic persons in power have never cared to change obsolete and obnoxious laws which have been plaguing our great motherland for several decades. There is an urgent need for drastic changes in the entire legal system.
Section 18 of the Indian Penal Code framed by Macaulay doesn’t regard the state of Jammu & Kashmir as a part of India. It says: “India” means the territory of India excluding the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Why has not this utterly false, unlawful and objectionable section been repealed by the Indian Parliament as yet?The continuance of this section speaks to the ignorance, selfishness and callous indifference of politicians in power to the interests of our nation.
Abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent annulment of the special status of Jammu & Kashmir is a sacred duty of all and sooner it is done the better it will be.

  5. Interesting post, but was mainly focussed on Yassin Malik and ilk.
Shekhar, would you be able to have something on the Kashmir pandits. Try it .. you will come very enlightened.
And before all that… how did all the Kashmir problem started. Who started it. Why are the Indian soldiers there. Who were the ones who went rampaging killing innocent Hindus in Kashmir.
Try answering these elementary questions and you will be astounded.
Kashmir will suffer the fate of Pakistan and other places, it will be eventually devoid of any Hindus. History will keep repeating until we acknowledge from which side aggression arises and what is their agenda.

  6. One man in one day will change the fate of kashmir, south asia, islam, asia and the world.
    That is narendra modi.
If he becomes Prime Minister of India, the end of islamic terrorism is inevitable.
All muslim terrorists understand, modi will use brutality that muslims have never seen, if they attack innocent people.
Modi is mehdi, the one who will come back to demolish mecca and medina, the one the koran says, will be the man who ends islam.
    JAI NARENDRA MODI
    ONLY YOU CAN SAvE KASHMIR

  7. WANDHAMA like tragedies are repeated once again in the Kashmir valley.
Thursday, June 5. A calf was killed within the Raginiya temple premises at Chtrigul, Anantnag in the valley of Kashmir. When the local Kashmiri Hindu families (4 in total) resisted, they were beaten without any mercy and this barbaric episode happened in front of police. Police who is suppose to be there for the security of the all citizens of valley. Police chose to remained mute spectators.
The Raginiya temple was burnt by the terrorists on 11th of Dec 1992. There were around 36 families total of 138 Kashmiri Hindu community members in 1992 were living around Raginiya temple. Presently there are only 5 Families total of 25 Kashmiri Hindu community members living around Raginiya temple.
FIR was lodged in the police station Chatergul on 13 of Dec 1992.
This time the NAAG of temple was targeted. A calf was beheaded in temple premises and then dropped in the NAAG.
From past experience instead of strongly condemning the heinous act on the part of Kashmiri Muslims our English media as usual will remain silent just like J&K police because Hindus in general and kashmiri Hindus in particular are not human beings their religious freedom is not important in the Kashmir valley. And government sources have the audacity to proclaim that the situation is fast coming to normal in the valley.
Your readers may want to know what WANDHAMA was.
WANDHAMA Massacre took place ten years ago. 23 kashmiri Hindus in their home were mercilessly killed by Islamic Terrorists in Wandhama. There was lone survivor who spent that dark night staring at 23 dead bodies of his family members among these dead bodies was a less than year old baby.
Your readers may also want to know what happened to the perpetrators of crime …..There are no surprises there ……. J&k govt deals with all terrorist uniformly weather it is Malik , Bitta or Wondhama Massacre culprits … J&K govt one by one closes these cases….
It is quite shameful that the enquiry in the Wondhama Massacre case was closed couple of months ago by J&K Govt on the pretext that:
” …not much evidence was available to bring the culprits to book so the case is closed ……… “.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to present facts on the administrative skills of secular past and present CM of J&K.

  8. Hi Shekhar
    Thanks for sharing your perspective.
I am a Kashmiri Muslim. My dad worked with the government. He was abducted for 3 days during the times when Vice Chancellor and the well-known doctors like Dr Guru were killed in the valley. We were skeptical of his release.
Then a few years later a cousin of mine was slain by the Indian Army. Again a few months later, as we had gone to tak our exams for 10+2, we came back home to discover another friend’s dad was killed in a cross firing.
I can go on and on about the atrocities by Indian Army.
What did Pandits go through? A couple of massacares killing maybe a couple of hundreds of them? They were expelled out of their so-called homeland coz Jagmohan, the governor then, had clearly warned them telling them to flee as the govt of India wanted to wipe out Kashmiri youths.
But peace and forgiveness is what is gonna make world a better place to live. If Pandits have tales to tell how they were thrown out….then every Kashmiri Muslim’s house has a gory incident to narrate.
There may be a Modi or Osama but there is God up above….and there will be justice against the dictator(s)!
    Cheers

  9. the prob. is the ethics of Muslim..+ brainwashed to the book…they cannot be rational untill they are told in thier own language

  10. One wonders that how come no one called then CM of Kashmir Farooque Abdullah “mote ka sodagar”. Please read Sandhya Jain’s article and have the glimpse of Kashmiri Hindu tragedy.

Jammu & Kashmir’s minuscule Hindu community, victim of severe religious persecution and ethnic cleansing over the past two decades, once again lost hope of an improvement in the political climate, which might have facilitated a return home, with the quiet closure of one of the worst massacres of the past decade. Last month, the community was shocked to learn that the Jammu & Kashmir Police had quietly closed the 1998 Wandhama massacre file, claiming “untraceability of the killers”, though Indian law does not allow the closure of unsolved murder cases.
Actually, there was never any serious investigation of the massacre. The massacre saw the cold-blooded killing of 23 Hindus in Wandhama village in Ganderbal, the constituency of then Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, on the night of January 25, 1998, the eve of Republic Day. One of the worst instances of ethnic cleansing, the victims included four children, nine women and 10 men; 14-year-old Vinod Dhar was the sole survivor. The Union Government had declared inability to help with the investigation in any respect, no doubt on account of Article 370.
Dhar revealed that masked gunmen entered the homes of the four Hindu families around 11.30 pm. They spoke Urdu, not Kashmiri, and asked for tea, which was served by his mother. Suddenly, firing broke out in all homes; the boy hid upstairs; the men set the house on fire before leaving. Vinod came down and saw the bodies of his family; the three other Hindu homes and a temple were also burning. Most Muslim neighbours were at the mosque for the holy night of Shab-e-Qader, and learnt of the killings when their women alerted them.
The State police said an unknown organisation, Intikaam-ul-Muslimoon, had left a letter on one of the bodies, claiming responsibility for the killing and warning of forthcoming attacks to avenge killings in Handwara. Villagers from both communities blamed the massacre on the “unwise” decision to shift an Army camp from the area seven months ago. Understandably, the slaughter triggered a fresh flight of Hindu families from Jammu & Kashmir.
Worse, the tragedy went virtually uninvestigated despite several pleas by Kashmiris. Instead of asking a superior investigating agency like the CID or CBI to help identify the killers, an incompetent or indifferent police callously closed the case on the grounds that no one had been identified as the killer of the Pandits. This is an ominous form of exoneration.
Though Wandhama shook the nation, agitating Kashmiri Hindus had to break down police barricades in New Delhi to get a hearing with the politically correct National Human Rights Commission. Panun Kashmir convener Agnishekhar fell unconscious when hit by a water cannon and had to be hospitalised. This compelled NHRC chairman Justice MN Venkatachaliah to order an on-the-spot investigation and issue notices to the Union Home Secretary, the State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir, regarding the safety of citizens in the Valley. It sought an action-taken report from the State and ordered special care for the upkeep of sole survivor Vinod Dhar.
But the problem of Kashmiri Hindus, then as now, can be summed up as ‘studied neglect’. On January 28, 1998, even as people mourned the tragedy, then Prime Minister IK Gujral celebrated the inauguration of the National Winter Games at Gulmarg with Mr Farooq Abdullah and Union Environment Minister Saifuddin Soz. This struck such a jarring note that the CPI(M) state general secretary felt forced to say that “as a mark of respect to the carnage of the innocent Pandits, the Government should have at least cancelled the colourful cultural programme, keeping in view the gloom that has engulfed the Valley people”.
The Wandhama massacre marked the second stage of Hindu killings in the Valley; the first targetted individuals or males in groups of two or three. Wandhama saw the concentrated killing of entire families in chosen villages. By this time, the militancy was controlled by jihadis from Pakistan, products of Dawat-ul Irshad at Muridke, or madarsas affiliated to the Jamaat-e-Islami or Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (which spawned Taliban). They were doctrinaire in their commitment to global Islamic resurgence and determined to wrest Jammu & Kashmir.
Scanning Press reports of the massacre, one found grieving Muslim neighbours reporting having advised the Hindu families to seek safety in Jammu, which the Hindus resisted, saying they loved the village. While respecting the sorrow of local Muslims, India must demand more from its Muslim citizens in the face of its unending suffering at the hands of jihadi outfits trained and sponsored by Pakistan and Bangladesh. For a start, Kashmiri Muslims must appreciate that the land of Rishi Kashyapa has a rich and hoary Vedic tradition which they must venerate and preserve if they truly believe in a composite Kashmiri culture, called ‘Kashmiriyat’. The State language should be Kashmiri, not Urdu.
Ganderbal district presented a grim sight: 23 funeral pyres were erected; a lonely child lit each in turn. There was no one left, he said, to look after him, his fields, orchards, cattle. What an inheritance. The Wandhama massacre exposed the claims of the Centre and the State Government that the Valley was returning to normal. In fact, the return of an elected Government witnessed three massacres of Hindus — Sangrampura (March 1997); Gul Gulabgarh (June 1997); and, Wandhama (January 1998). Kashmiris who fled naturally rebuffed Mr Abdullah’s calls to return, as he failed to admit or mitigate their security concerns. The Centre was a mute spectator.
Currently, in election year, political parties are frantically calling Kashmiri Hindus back to the Valley, announcing sops and financial incentives to regain international credibility. The objective is to restore the shattered myth of composite culture, a euphemism for Hindu acquiescence in the politico-cultural domination of Islam. Subordination induced by centuries of oppression led Kashmiri Hindus to adopt a peculiar self-apartheid and insist on having a distinct identity from other Indian Hindus; the price was a chilling Hindu indifference to their predicament.
But the wheel turned full circle when the flight of Hindus weakened the position of Kashmiri Muslims vis-à-vis Pakistan on the issue of independence. Recognition has belatedly dawned that Hindus are a bulwark against outright absorption into the ‘land of the pure’. As the Prophet inducted Arabs into his new faith tribe by tribe, Islam failed to eradicate tribal-ethnic identities, though it cannot admit them. Kashmiri Muslims cannot submit to Punjabi domination in Pakistan.

  11. Few more glimpses on today’s Kashmir valley of “kashmir ki kali” Please find below a copy of an appeal addressed to The Prime Minister Of India by Dr.agnishekhar on the fast deteriorating situation in Kashmir and the crisis brewing as a result of the stoppage of Amarnath Yatra at Ganderbal today by a mob. It is an insult to Independent India’s Hindus.
Please read on speak up silence will not make any change. I have doing my part by bringing forth the situation. Media needs to pay attention to antinationalist elements and bring forth the truth instead of spreading lies about Modi. Speak up ……before it is too late Hindus are human too
    Thanks
    Jansi
    Your Excellency,
We are addressing this letter to you with great concern at the fast deteriorating socio-political milieu of the state. Of particular concern is the rabidly communal stance and statements of the frontline political parties, not to talk of the separatists and the militant groups. The brandishing of stark communalism by parties like the PDP, the National conference, the CPI (M), the separatists and the militants has caused serious alarm to Kashmiri Hindus in particular and crores of Hindus in general.
An innocuous activity like Shri Amarnath Yatra has been mired into controversies and in effect hurdles are being created in its smooth conductance. Sir, as you are aware that Shri Amarnath Goofa is one of the most sacred pilgrimage centers of Hindus since times immorial and has been a good source of livelihood for the Muslim populace enroute the holy cave. In the past since the eruption of militancy in the state hundreds of yatris have sacrificed their lives and have fallen to terrorist bullets but never had such an ideological opposition to the yatra been seen. The protagonists of this vicious tirade dub the holy Amarnath Yatra as a cultural invasion of Kashmir affecting its ecology, cultural identity and demography. To this effect these people have been issuing highly inflammatory communal statements causing hurt and anguish to a billion Hindus and Kashmiri Hindus in particular.
Sir, whatever ecological damage Kashmir has suffered is as a result of illegal felling of trees by land mafia in connivance with corrupt administration over the years. The systematic reclamation of water bodies and continuous flow of waste materials into lakes like the famous Dal lake and uncontrolled construction activity has resulted in ecological damage rather than the Amarnath Yatya. The much touted Kashmiriyat stands thoroughly exposed which is nothing but a smokescreen to camouflage the communal fangs. In so far as the so called demographic change of Kashmir is concerned, yes it has taken place, the entire population of Kashmiri Pandits was driven out on the basis of faith making them refugees in their own country. Your Excellency has been a witness to my presentation in the RTC where we raised the issue of ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus resulting in their complete exodus from Kashmir valley. We had raised the issue of the rise of communalism and fundamentalism in the valley and demanded the constitution of a commission of enquiry to go into the entire gamut and also the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. Our fears on the issue have proven correct as now even Govt. functionaries like Mr. Mufti Sayed, Mr.Muzaffar Beg, Mehbooba Sayed and M.Y.Tarigami and others are openly fanning communalism.Mr.Sayed, the supremo of PDP which is the coalition partner of congress in the state says that Shri Amarnath Shrine Board should be annulled completely and yatra should be purely on the goodwill of the majority community.Mr.Farooq Abdullah, the Patron of National Conference says that he would reverse the legislation of Shri Amaranth Shrine Board.Dr.Farooq has gone to the extent of saying that the return of Kashmiri Pandits is subject to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute and in this he is in unison with the rabid separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani ,who talks what his Pakistani masters tell him to do. The deputy chief minister Mr.Muzaffar Beg says that we have not mortgaged our honour and dignity by signing the instrument of accession. He goes on to add that they were blackmailed in the formation of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board as a quid pro quo to the construction of Mughal road that would connect the Kashmir valley with the Muslim dominated areas of Jammu region. This has the making of a very dangerous situation for Indian interests. The statements of Mehbooba Sayed, the president of PDP and men like M.Y.Tarigami are absolutely against the present shrine board and Amarnath Yatra. Both the factions of the Hurriat conference have mended fences on the issue and are now issuing statements from Pakistan on our religious affairs. Mehbooba Sayed who is in Germany is issuing inflammatory statements from there. Government of India by allowing these people to travel abroad and to conduct anti-India activity is beyond our level of understanding. Such laissez faire has not been witnessed even in the most liberated societies not to talk of nations. Separitists and militants are setting agenda for Indo-Pak talks. We are unable to understand the nuances of this diplomacy. Foreign policy of the country seems to be dictated by Mehbooba Sayed, who asked Pakistan not to keep the Kashmir dispute on the back burner. In all this we witness a total absence of statecraft. Sir congress is the ruling party in the state and it cannot remain a mute spectator to the happenings around. The gains of our valiant security forces are being frittered away at the cost of political expediency. Your Excellency in this hour of crisis your personal intervention alone would save the day.
The Temples Bill which was meant for the preservation of Hindu shrines in the valley was not allowed to be tabled in several assembly sessions with rabid opposition from communal elements in PDP and National Conference.Sharda Peeth university project was scuttled whereas Govt. gave free land to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University project and also free land was given to Trans-Muslim-Nations-University and one more University project at Kashmir. All this points to the complete cleansing of the last vestiges of Hindu presence in the valley. The names of all symbols of Hindu identity are being replaced with that of Muslim names. After having done ethnic cleansing in the valley, Kashmiri Hindus were subjected to administrative cleansing and now they are doing religious cleansing. Under these circumstances our demand for separate Homeland for 7 lakh Kashmiri Pandits is fully justified. No Hindu can live in such a communally surcharged atmosphere and as such must not be enticed or forced to do so unless a separate Homeland is carved for him where he can savor the full flow of Indian constitution and protect his cultural and religious identity that is under threat at the moment.
    With most gracious regards
    Dr.Agnishekhar

  12. If modi was prime minister, this crisis of giving 40 acres of land to hindus for a shrine would not be happening.
Modi would destroy islam in one week
    day 1 mecca
    day 2 medina
    day 3 pakistan
    day 4 the middle east
day 5 the central asian steppes
    day 6 south east asia
day 7 rise of the new world order of vedanta

  13. Voice of reasoning is not the KMS cup of tea they forgets that billions of Rupees democratic Indian tax payers are spent on these antinationalist can demonstrate freely on the streets and blind Indian media does not care how the sentiments of Hindus are stampeded.
These KMS want locals to earn from Yatrees corrupt anti national politicians (Muftis, Abdulas, Begs, Sozes) who are part of state government wants to keep its share from Hindu Yatrees . It is modern Jajiya and blind media and sold out vote bankers do not see that till they sell the country
These KM keep taking about. Kashmiri People
Who the hell are these so called Kashmiri People?
    Are they all Muslims?
Are Kashmiri Hindus included in Kashmiri People?
Are ladhaki Buddhist included in Kashmiri People?
Are Hindus from Jammu Included in Kashmiri People?
The English media will keep showing what happened in dam valley and advertise on behalf of these antinationalist they will not give dam to Hindu sentiments I am sure they would have been whistling different tune if by any chance Muslim sentiments were hurt. I guess they are conveying Majority Hindu India that these Kashmir people (read KM) are so gentle after cleansing Kashmir valley of its Hindu population they are all ready to serve yatrees
These antinationalist vote grabbing politicians and blind English media does not see that country was divided once on religion and those who want to cross over should be asked to go to Azad Kashmir and ask for Azadi from Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Here is the brief history of Amaranth
    http://www.expressindia.com/news/fullstory.php?newsid=47599
The most famous of these pilgrimages is the Cave of Amar Nath which is an All-India Holy Place. People visit it from every corner of India. Mention of it occurs twice in the Raiatarangini (the history of Kashmir), first where the King Ram Deva is stated to have imprisoned the debauch King Sukh Deva and to have drowned him in the Lidder (Lambodheri) among the mountains of Amar Nath about 1,000 B.C., and a second time where King Sandimati (34 B.C. to 17 A.D.) is described as visiting the ice-lingam.
    A BRIEF HISTORY
The Amarnath Cave is referred to in the Bhrngish Samhita, Nilmat Purana, Kal hana’s Rajtarangini, and the Mahat mayas of Amarnatha and Amresh vara Kalpa. According to Kalhana’s Rajtarangini, Samdi mat (34 BCE-17 CE), a great devotee of Shiva who rose from the position of minister to be the king of Kashmir, “used to worship a linga of snow above the forests, which is not found elsewhere in the world, during the delightful Kashmir summers”. Kalhana also narrates the legend of Naga Surava, who gave his daughter Chan dralekha in marriage to a Brahmin youth and carved a place for him besides his own abode in Shushram Naga (Seshnag). Kalhana says, “It is seen to this day (ie, 1148-49) by pilgrims proceeding to Amareshvara (Amarnath).”
The fact that Zain-ul-abdin (1420-70), the pious Muslim ruler of Kashmir, also visited
Amarnath has been docu mented by his chronicler Jonaraja.
Francois Bernier, the French physician who accompanied Emperor Aurangzeb to Kashmir in 1663, recorded that after visiting Trisandiya, Verinag, Achabal and Wular Lake, he was in Sind Valley when Aurangzeb called him back. He writes in Travels in Moghul Empire, “I was pursuing the journey to a grotta full of wonderful congealations, two days journey from Sangsafed when I received intelligence that my Nawab (Aurangzeb) felt very impatient and uneasy on account of my long absence.” Bernier’s book was edited by Vincent A Smith, who observes, “The grotta full of wonderful congealations is the Amarnath Cave, where blocks of ice stalagmites formed by dripping water from the roof are worshipped by many Hindoos… as images of Shiva.”
Vigne, in Travels in Kashmir, Ladakh and Iskardu (1842) says, “The ceremony at the cave of Amarnath takes place on the 15th of the Hindu month of Sawan, 28th July… not only Hindoos of Kashmir but those from Hindoostan of every rank and caste can be seen, collecting together and travelling up the valley of Lidder towards the celebrated cave.” Vigne himself, after returning from Ladakh and Tibet by 1840-41, during the rule of Maharaja Sher Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, attempted to visit Amarnath along the traditional route via Seshnag in late season, but was forced to return from the Wawjan Pass due to bad weather.
Walter R Lawrence mentions in Valley of Kashmir (1895) that Brahmins of Mattan joined the pilgrims to Amarnath and further up at Batkot, the Maliks used to take charge of the pilgrimage. Accord ing to Lawrence, the Maliks were sup posed to keep the track in order, guide and escort the pilgrims, carry the sick, and ensure nothing was stolen; they received one-third of the offerings made at the Amarnath shrine. The other two shares used to go to the Pandits of Mattan and the Giri Mahants of Amritsar, who used to and still lead the pilgrimage with Chhari Mubarak (Holy Mace), but now from Srinagar. During the Sikh rule in Kashmir, Amritsar was the starting point of the yatra but in the 1940s, pilgrims started embarking from Srinagar.
The tradition of dividing the offerings into three has now been done away with. In the year 2000, the shrine was taken over by the state government and currently its affairs are managed by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board headed by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, with compensation awarded to the earlier beneficiaries.
    THE YATRA
While proceeding to Amarnath, think of its rich history and legends. Was it not Shiva and Parvati themselves who first traversed the trek? Countless pilgrims, many of them great sages, have walked upon this path. Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramtirath undertook the pilgrim age to Amarnath. A thousand years earlier, Adi Shankaracharya walked this way to see Shankara himself. Interestingly, VS Naipaul also went on the Yatra when he visited India, before writing his first book on the country. In his gripping account of the pilgrimage, he speaks of his joy and that of other pilgrims as they make their way to the cave. Now is your chance for a brush with sacred history.

  14. Kashmir is just a point of discussion for people like Shekhar Kapoor, when they are not doing anything they write about the things that doesn’t matter to them. for kashmiri muslim politicians, it is golden egg giving hen. And for rest of Indians it is just a tourist spot. No body can understand the trauma and pain all Kashmiri Pandits have gone through. No body is there to listen to them, no body is there to see their plight. Yes, refugees in their own country. What a destiny…..

  15. FYI:- voice of reasoning which is lacking in sold out English media and those who are promoting these turn coat fickle minded politician like these Abdullahs stating from grand father to grand son…….Muftis are have mastered the art of deception…..
    Editorial: Daily Pioneer
In Kashmir, no land for Hindus
    A Surya Prakash
Giving in to Muslim communalists and protesters who indulged in violence across
the Kashmir Valley, the Congress-led Government in Jammu & Kashmir hastily
withdrew the allotment of 100 acres of land made to the Sri Amarnath Shrine
Board to provide basic amenities to Hindu pilgrims along the Amarnath Yatra
route. The attitude of the Muslim majority to the Hindu minority in the Valley
and the response of the Government in India’s only Muslim-majority State to the
issue of minority rights is in sharp contrast to the manner in which the Hindu
majority and the Union and State Governments treat the religious minorities in
the rest of India, specially in regard to pilgrimages. The contrast is so
striking that these developments have suddenly rekindled the debate on the
pseudo-secularism and minorityism that is practiced by the Congress and its
allies in the United Progressive Alliance.
Apart from constructing exclusive Haj terminals in airports and offering Haj
pilgrims 16 embarkation points in the country, the Union Government has been
providing Haj subsidy that has been rising every year. The Haj subsidy, which
was a mere Rs 25.59 crore in 1993, crossed Rs 348 crore in 2006. The cost of the
subsidy has ballooned because the price the pilgrims pay for the return ticket
to Jeddah has remained constant at Rs 12,000 since 1994 while the actual cost of
the ticket has risen from Rs 33,000 to Rs 46,000.
The number of pilgrims has also shot up. Apart from this subsidy, the Indian
government has a Haj Office in the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, runs a hospital
in Mecca and dispensaries in Mecca and Madinah, and sends doctors, nurses and
para-medical staff to run these medical establishments during the pilgrimage. In
addition, the Government has sanctioned eight ambulances and medicines for
    pilgrims who fall ill.
The number of Haj pilgrims has gone up from 25,205 in 1993 to 1.08 lakh in 2006.
Though Jammu & Kashmir is one of the less-populated States in the country, it
sent the fifth biggest contingent of pilgrims (6,630) for Haj in 2006. The
Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh has taken this policy of minorityism a
step further and announced subsidy for Christians who wish to visit Bethlehem,
the birthplace of Jesus. However, in the only Muslim-majority State in the
Indian Union, Hindu pilgrims to the Amarnath Shrine do not qualify for grant of
a few acres of land along the yatra route for provision of basic amenities. BJP
leader Venkaiah Naidu put it succinctly at a public meeting in New Delhi the
other day when he said the population of the Hindus may be 100 crore. But in
India, Hindu pilgrims are not entitled to even 100 acres.
Apart from the double standards practiced by a national party, the Hindu
majority in India has also to cope with the blatant dishonesty of Muslim
politicians of Jammu & Kashmir. They claim that by allocating land to the Sri
Amarnath Shrine Board, the State Government has harmed the cause of
‘Kashmiriyat’. Pray, what is ‘Kashmiriyat’? If it supposedly means the peaceful
and harmonious co-existence of Hindus and Muslims, we need to ask ourselves if
    that was ever there.
Any history book will tell us that the onslaught on Hindus in Kashmir began in
the 14th Century during the reign of Sultan Sikander. Apart from destroying
Hindu temples and breaking idols, he began a systematic drive to proselytise
Hindus, thus forcing large number of them to convert or migrate. His successors
like Sultan Ali Shah carried on the ‘good work’. In more recent times, Islamic
terrorists raped and killed Hindus, burnt their homes and forced them to flee
the Valley in 1989-90, leading to the most comprehensive and cold-blooded
instance of ethnic cleansing in this region. An estimated three lakh Hindus have
fled their homes and taken refuge in Jammu and New Delhi. Yet, Kashmiri Muslim
politicians have the temerity to talk of ‘Kashmiriyat’ and communal amity in the
    State!
Even more preposterous is the argument relating to demographic change. The whole
world is aware of how Hindus were driven out of the Valley. Yet, we have this
disgusting spectacle of politicians like Mr Omar Abdullah from the Valley
stating publicly on television channels that they oppose the transfer of 100
acres to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board because they fear that through the
transfer of these few acres of land “the demographic character of Kashmir is
    being altered”.
Mr Omar Abdullah is packaged by some media houses as a ‘liberal, secular’
politician and is almost a permanent fixture in some television studios during
debates on minority rights. But the minority rights he is concerned about are
not the rights of the Hindu minority in his home State but the rights of Muslims
in the rest of India. The Amarnath land allotment affair has completely exposed
    him.
Given his objections to the allotment of land, we need to remind him that
‘secularism’, like charity, ought to begin at home. He must first display some
passion and commitment to defend the rights of Hindus in the Kashmir Valley,
just as there are many Hindu politicians in the rest of India who stand up for
the rights of the Muslim minority in their States. Otherwise, his utterances
will sound hypocritical and people from other Indian States will be urging media
houses to please shut out this man’s humbug.
Incidentally, Mr Omar Abdullah is not the only Kashmiri politician who is given
to double-speak. Take Mr Yasin Malik for example. He claimed on television last
week that Kashmiris “are the most hospitable people in the world” and that the
religious harmony that prevails in the Kashmir Valley “is unique in the world”.
Yet another gem from this man is that Kashmiri Muslims have been “taking care”
of Hindu pilgrims all these years.
Is amnesia a standard condition among Kashmiri politicians or is it that they
are completely disconnected from truth? Is not Mr Malik aware of what his people
have done to the Hindu minority in 1989-90? Is he not aware of the number of
Hindu pilgrims who have been killed by terrorists during the Amarnath Yatra in
previous years? Equally preposterous is his claim that since Muslims “take care”
of Hindu pilgrims, there is no need for a Hindu Board to manage the Sri Amarnath
Shrine! We should now ask Mr Malik to please apply this logic to all Muslim
shrines across India. Since Hindus take such good care of Muslims (they even
subsidise their pilgrimage, build Haj terminals in airports and hospitals in
Jeddah), why have Waqf Boards and other Muslim religious bodies to manage
    mosques and dargahs?
All Indians who value democracy and a secular order must challenge these
purveyors of untruth and remind them that secularism is not a one-way street.

  16. Shekhar you said: “No one asked him any questions (after all there was Priety Zinta on the Dias too !) and so I did one :
    ” Have you forgiven ?”
Should the question not have been on the other foot? Given that Yasin Malik is the perpetrator of horrific crimes, it should be the prerogative of the families of his victims who ultimately decide if Yasin should be forgiven or justice be delivered.

  17. I’m sure glad to come across this topic on here. I was feeling increasingly alone in some of the other current topics here which are dogged by pseudo-secularists or probably disguised miscreants.
I sure hope the celebrities of Bollywood and other influential people take upon themselves the responsiblity of spreading awareness of this virus of islamic fundamentalism that is plaguing India which is exponentially worse than the AIDS virus. We have to just keep hoping that Modi will take over the reigns or another Bal Thackeray will rise to protect the Hindus..however, the moderate indian muslims also belong there but they should be made to remove all separatist fanatic crap from their religious teachings..religions have to be heavily monitored in india and forced conversions have to be dealt with in the most strict manner and anyone who preaches violence against another for not believing their crap needs to be put behind bars.
i have met some Kashmiri Pandits and it is disheartening to see such a defunct country as India which has failed to protect such a large portion of its majority..it really is in God’s hands to put this blessed land back in its glory.

  18. Shekhar,
I saw videos of the remarkable speeches by the speakers who were at India Today conclave,2008. However, I was disappointed to see that no leader representing the Kashmiri Pandits was invited in the conclave to present his/her thoughts. If Yasin Malik can be invited then why not the Kashmiri Pandit? Isn’t it fair and democratic to present two sides of the argument?
If you believe that romanticism should be brought back to Kashmir, I request you to make a movie or a documentary of the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. The past, present and future of the Pandits is at stake and very few people in the national media are aware of their non-violent struggle.

  19. Shekhar
This is a sad state. In my lifetime alone I have seen Pundits being thrown out. Now this land issue. They want to build huts and toilets for the yatris which the Muslims are saying will disbalance the demographic equation by encouraging the Kashmiri Pundits to return. Plus they said that the yatra disturbs Kashmir’s ecology and hence must be wrapped up in 15 days. They protested for 20 days, no one said anything. But when Hindus protested they were killed and tortured just to appease the Muslim voters there. The Congress thinks they will win the election but I am afraid we will lose Kashmir. How long will we Hindus appease?

  20. Shekahr,
People like Yasin Malik have lost their capability to distinguish between right and wrong. God is love but their God knows only hatred. What silly arguments they give to justify which is not justifiable. They talk of forgiveness after they protested against giving some piece of land to create resting places for those who come to have darshan of Lord Shiva. Muslim Kashmiris have acted shamelessly.

  21. India Needs leaders who are Nationalist for whom country’s national security, Countries integrity, counties sovereignty and communal harmony (where each and every citizen of India gets justice not only select minority community) takes priority over any thing else.
India was divided on the bases of religion those Muslims who wanted to live under Islamic Sharia law went to Pakistan. Rest of the Indians regardless of their color cast and religion stayed back in India .
The bases of Indian Culture are Vedas which are century’s old collective wisdom of our Rishies and Monies weather some one likes it or not that remains the fact. Many invaders come and left. Hospitality of Indian culture remains supreme Indians welcomed all religions, India is mother of many religions Indians never went out and invaded any country.
Indians are proud of their Parsi community who adopted India as their country. Parsis of India are minorities but never asked for minority status. Parsis are well educated leading entrepreneurs of India to top it all they are nationalist other minority communities of India should learn thing or two from this proud flourishing Parsi community of India .
India is a democratic country where constitution of India is supreme. Those country man whose umbilical cord is attached with Arabia and those who want to live under Islamic Sharia law and are not happy in India then this is not the country where they should live they should seriously consider leaving. Nationalist country man and woman will not allow any one to destroy the country. Nationalist country man and woman will fight tooth and nail and stand for the rights of their country man and woman that is what we are experiencing in Jammu.
Which English media is refusing to understand? If you happen to watch NDTV OR IBN you will see how they have brought forth all section of separatist view point. NDTV or IBN does no research what ever the separatists say they loudly propagate that lie. for example. Separatist say they are not communal
None of the so called journalist ask them then why were five lakh Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs thrown out?
Separatist say they are not against Yatrees. Yatrees are our guest these TV anchors repeat after them loudly and become mouth piece for separatist and allow the lie perpetuate even when proofs are against the separatist lies. Nation does not hear from Jammu & Ladhak what they have gone through under these Islamic fundamentalist.
None of the so called journalist ask them Are Hindus Sikhs and Buddhist of Kashmir and Jammu Ladhak not part of same Land why should they be treated as guests.
Separatist say that Muslim Shepherd discovered the cave and media cheerfully repeats that lie time and again without doing any research in that matter and letting the nation know that mention of Amarnath is in Neelmath puran & Rajtarangni so it can not be just 150 years old. Name of Kashmir comes from Kashap Rishi Do they care about the Hindu civilization off course not. Caring about Hindu civilization may dampen their pseudo secular credentials
Muslim population of India isince independence has increased from 10% to 15% (where as 20% Hindu population in Bangladesh and Pakistan has been reduced to 1% ) Now look at the representation of Muslims in NDTV debates on J&K over 70% are Muslims are from valley be it politicians separatist or Bureaucrats . Is J&K only Kashmir valley Muslims?
India has gone through much turmoil many invaders like Mughals and British came they could not shake the Vedic culture. Indian Muslims are indigenous to that culture too …..Most of Indian Muslims are inheritors of the grand Indian culture in their hart of their harts they should know that their ancestors were prosecuted and forcibly converted to Islam by invaders. I know this is not politically correct statement but that remains the fact that is what happened in Kashmiri. The Kashmiri Muslim who is identifying with Arabia today should look at their last names which still bear their Hindu past last names like “Bhatt, Riana and Dhar are common last names of Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus.
We Indians need to learn few things from United States. It is one country where whole world comes together because it is a country of immigrants from all over the world. It is governed under one law. They are not ashamed of their history. United States does not falsify their history unlike India on the account that it may flair communal tension. They have made mistakes as a nation they have learned from their past mistakes amended their laws and enforced the laws of land effectively. Nation comes first for Americans they are nationalist. We need to learn that from United States.
They are Americans first then anything else their nationalism and patriotism is something we Indians should pay attention to
We need leaders who have spine like Prime Minister John Howard – Australia Quote: “……..I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. …..” Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims when he said that he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. He also reminded minorities
”We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’ ‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE ‘.”If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here.. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’
We need a nation Leaders in our country who can stand up and say that our mother land was divided on religious lines. We have accepted that and have moved on with vibrant democracy. We can not allow any one to further divide our mother land. People who chose to stay back at the time of partition of India were not forced to do so. Indian Constitution protects each and every citizen of this country regardless of their cast color and religious beliefs. Those who want to live by sharia law and can not live in harmony and show respect to the culture of their mother Land they certainly are free to choose other country of their choice.

  22. Subject: Why is our own Indian media (NDTV especially) pampering Kashmiri separatists? – India Questions!
    Shakhar
Enclosed is the question of ordinary Indian can you or your readers respond to this
    quote:-
Starting with the quote of our Ex President Dr. Abdul Kalam “Indian media should represent the billion people of the country”…….
……… i recall Barkha Dutt’s comments in the prime time news of NDTV 24X7 probably in the first week of July saying Yasin Malik “EVEN” went to meet the yatris to assure them of their security etc – I as a normal nationalist Indian completely failed to understand & was really shattered on hearing the word “EVEN”??? It was quite obvious that Barkha Dutt feels that this guy was such a great person to be making such a great gesture!!! And then you went on to lambast BJP – the favorite punching bag for the media and so called intellectuals like Barkha Dutt. What is the need of calling murderers like Yasin Malik on such shows, giving them undue importance, pampering them and treating them like your son-in-laws?????
Just few days back again on NDTV, another senior journalist didn’t allow, one of the nationalist Indian (Hindu) to speak & express his comments in reaction to the comments of the Kashmiri separatists (Sajjad Lone) in the discussion forum, stating that “we don’t allow such things on NDTV” BUT what an irony or contradiction or appeasement policy… in another program on NDTV post 2-3 days, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was very freely & confidently prefixing “YOUR COUNTRY / YOUR INDIA / YOUR POLITICIANS” in his comments & the same was freely allowed by NDTV. It seems NDTV has attained specialization in promoting such anti-national individuals & their anti-national activities and irresponsible journalists like Barkha Dutt are holding the post of SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in that area.
So is this what you allow on NDTV??? On one side you are not allowing the INDIAN nationalists (who salute Indian Flag) to fully express (& many times you put their voice on mute) their nationalist views & on the other side you NOT ONLY allow Kashmiri separatists (who burn Indian Flag & salute Pak flags) to speak as much as they can but also allow them with whatever uncouth & anti-national language they use.
Everyone known to me who has watched or is watching NDTV’s approach towards the whole Amarnath issue now-a-days (through many such programs) is getting the same feeling that NDTV & its journalists (almost all) are also trying to appease these separatists. We don’t know why. And we are NOT interested to know why but the fact remains that more & more people are feeling this & all this is making Indian blood boil.
I call these separatists in Kashmir as ‘Known Devils’ as whatever they are doing is nothing new & is exactly what is expected of them (evident from their slogans like “Pakistan se rishta kya, la illaha illalla”, “Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan”, “Yehan kya chalega: Nizaam-e-Mustafa” besides the familiar “Ham kya chahte: Azadi”). AND at the same time I, now, call you pseudo journalists as “UNKNOWN DEVILS” as what you are doing can’t be expected of so called responsible media in India & that too with the Indians.
Journalists like you (instrumental in promoting such anti-national voices & suppressing the nationalist voices), in my opinion, are no less than ISI’ans & Osama’s. It is very easy for you guys getting fat pay packets commanding the discussions (God knows driven by whom) from cozy air conditioned rooms or for that matter covering field news under heavy security arrangements.
Now talking about the hype created by you guys on so called “Economic Blockade”… again, here also, it is only you journalists who have (by repeated recitation of vehicular obstruction of few days as an “Economic Blockade”) triggered & prompted these separatists to capitalize sympathy with using this term.
You journalists may have become renowned in your fields by selling/diluting your souls, but may I ask you all few questions:
Have you or any of your near or dear ones been a victim of step-motherly treatment like the one given to Jammu & its Dogra residents?
Have you ever lost any of your family member(s) or uncountable relatives &/or friends to the hands of these separatists?
Has any of your family member(s) or uncountable relatives &/or friends been murdered by using burning cigarette bits all around the body?
Has your entire life-long & hard earned property (including each & every small item even) been gutted to fire by these separatists?
Have you ever lived in any such area surrounded by a bulk of such separatists?
Have you lived in such areas where you are abusesd in both the case of India loosing or winning the cricket matches?
Have you ever lived in any such area where you are forced not to watch Indian TV channels & asked to watch Pakistani TV channels?
Have you lived in any such where you are told to leave that place within 48 hours or meet the death?
Do you have any actual idea that how many Kashmiri Pandits (both males & females) were killed during a span of 6-9 month starting end of 1989?
Do you know the brutal ways that were used by these separatists to kill Kashmiri Pandits?
Such list of questions can go endless…….???
I am undoubtedly 100% sure that your answer to all these questions will be a BIG NO!!! Had your answer to these questions been yes or/& had you not sold/diluted your soul in pampering these separatists like Sajjad Lone, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Abdul Gani Lone, Yasin Malik, etc.
My message to media fraternity of Barkha Dutt types:
Indians don’t expect any thing from you guys but at the same time, for heavens sake, don’t also expect this type of clearly visible bias in your approach, reporting, discussions, etc. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH…. Please, please & please start representing the billion people (mass) of the country (as quoted by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam) & not the traitors of India.
I Salute the efforts of SAHARA SAMAY for representing the Indian mass with unbiased, neutral & truthful approach while handling the debates & discussions and putting forward the facts on the Amarnath Land issue.
Subject: Why is our own Indian media (NDTV especially) pampering Kashmiri separatists? – India Questions!
25. Kashmir is of Kashmiri Pandits and will remain so always, even though they have been in forced exile since last 19 years…
Islamic Terrorist Yasin Malik who murdered hundreds of innocents of people in the Kashmir Valley starting 1989, is these days in Pakistan enjoying private marriage ceremony with Maltah Mullick, a 28 year old Pakistani artist, student of Political Economy in LSE, London. Though we shouldn’t dwell so deep into personal and private matters; but since he is a terrorist and doesn’t deserve even that bit…I would go a bit further and give vent to my words. Either his would be wife is dumb or else she is blind. The last and the only reason I see is that she has been fed great amount of money…. Amazing!
And least to say…he roams free even though serious cases pending against him in Indian Courts. He should die the worst death…in the worst form of pain…

  26. Our History is filled with disgust and treachery. When thousands of soldiers march illegally around in a civilian area,it is hard to control hostility against the entire nation. When women get raped despite of age, marital status, pregnancy etc ,people get butchered like lambs to slaughter, optimistic retrospection transforms into something meaningless.
You have to realize how elections work out in Kashmir. They want to vote because they want to get their basic necessities fulfilled. They are forced to ply with this political arrangement and they are left with no choice whatsoever. This completely violates accepted principles of liberty.
When Indians went extreme in getting independence at their time, convicting Maqbool Butt as a dreaded agent and accusing Yaseen Malik as a terrorist is something unacceptable. At that time, there was absolutely no scope for peaceful negotiations. If I write the atrocities and cruelties suffered by the people that time, you will cry or prefer a cyanide.Grandmothers were being raped, people were burned alive in Safa Kadal by so called “Indian Armed Protectors” of rights.
Era of dialogue and peaceful negotiations started after 2000,in reality. However the timeless mistrust of both countries is not allowing our dispute to settle. There needs to be a genuine round of dialogue with IDENTIFIED leaders from our side
And you should know Kashmiri Pandits were the ones who actually played a shrewd role in division of Kashmir if we go back to history. If we go back to Kashmiri history, there was a split in power during 1947-1953 which meant division of leadership in pro India & pro Pakistan.Indian extremist forces played a major role in that which is quite evident from history- RSS shipped armed gangs and slaughtered Muslims in Jammu-Once Maharaja signed the standstill agreement with Pakistan.
There was a communal divide which resulted as an unrest.Innocent pandits were part of collateral damage. They were forced to get out as they were made prisoners of rhetoric’s, plunged by their fellow leaders. Having said that ,most of the separatist leaders want them back today. Its a fact. The mindset of people has changed.People prefer debates and discussions rather than gun fires.
I have no hostility against you or Indians.Everyone has a freedom of choice and opinions but it doesn’t excuse the poison that comes out of that mouth of yours. You should observe ,read, analyze and venture out a problem. You have no right to impart a blame game on us-that too with no reasons. You shouldn’t shamelessly parade a viewpoint which even doesn’t have a majority!

  27. Kashmir issue is highly complex. It is a conflict due to which both the Muslims have suffered, and the Hindus and Sikhs have suffered. The whole conflict is, basically, useless.
If I had gone to the India Today Enclave, I would have asked Yasin Malik two questions instead of one. First would be the same as Shekhar Kapur. I would say:
“The Kashmir issue is a very complex issue in which nobody is completely right. There are many reasons behind the rise of the Kashmir issue, and both India, Pakistan, as well as Kashmir itself, is responsible. And this issue cannot be solved unless we forget the past, forgive each other for the mistakes we’ve committed in the past, and work for a solution for MODERN DAY Kashmir. I have two questions for you..
    1) I as an Indian ask you, Yasin Malik, are you willing to forgive India and its Government & Army, for the atrocities carried out by them in Kashmir?
    2) Do you, then apologize to Kashmiri Pundits, and rest of Indians, for what you have done to them?”
Personally, I am against a country based on religion. For this reason, I am against Pakistan (as well as Israel and some middle-east countries). Pre-partition, Hindu population in Pakistan area was 25%. After partition, due to genocides carried out by Pakistan gov’t (read Balochistan Genocide, etc.), Hindu population in Pakistan is at 2%. Number of Hindu temples has gone down in Karachi from 500 in 1947 to 9 in 2006. In Lahore there are Zero Temples (pre-partition my own family owned a temple in lahore, which post-partition was looted and demolished).
If I am a hindu and I want to live in Pakistan (my family is from lahore originally), why can I not live there? Even more important, why must I be forced to follow Islamic law?!
For THIS reason (and this reason only), I am against the succession of Kashmir to Pakistan. In my opinion, if Kashmir is to gain ‘independence’ from India, then they must become an independent SECULAR country.
Unfortunately, Kashmir itself is headed towards Islamization. Tell me, what does Kashmiriyat have to do with Islam? Kashmiriyat has nothing to do with religion. In fact most Kashmiris (and Pakistanis) used to be Hindus before the Muslims invaded India.
And this is why I am unhappy about the whole Amarnath issue. Kashmir is a very important region for Hinduism. It is one of the places where Hinduism arose. Many of our shrines and temples are there. Why are we not allowed there?
I have a few Hindu Kashmiri friends who had to flee. They are very eager to go back home. Unfortunately they cannot. They tell us about how “jihadis” would come and assassinate any Hindus they saw. They would set ablaze any temples they saw; nobody would stop them.
That being said, I’m not undermining the fact that Muslims have through much torture themselves. They have been raped, murdered, kidnapped by Indian army. But does nobody see that this conflict goes both ways? People only focus on the Muslims. Moreover, you cannot deny the fact that Muslim Kashmiri casualties have only risen at a faster rate since Pakistan-backed insurgencies started taking place. (And yet Kashmiris still prefer Pakistan over India)
Let me remind you, Kashmir is not only for Muslims. It is for all KASHMIRIS.
And if Kashmir wants ‘azaadi’ from India, fine by me. Just make sure you can create a peaceful, secular homeland for every Kashmiri, irrespective of faith. However, I highly doubt that will ever happen. Why? Because I have talked to many Muslim Kashmiris; their belief is that there are two types of countries – Muslim, and non-Muslim. They’d prefer to be the former. Recently we also heard about that lady in Kashmir who is going around ripping off posters of women who are not fully covered (i.e. wearing a burqa and hijab). To these kinds of people, I would say, “then go to Pakistan, and leave Kashmir for true Kashmiris who really believe in Kashmiriyat”.
Unfortunately, I think India’s case is also weakened by the fact that it hasn’t been able to bring justice to its own people who have suffered due to riots and other such things, be it Godhra, post-Godhra riots, Babri Masjid, Orissa, Kashmiri Pundits, 1984 riots. When our own people are beginning to call our country “pseudo-secular”, do we have the right to tell Kashmiris to be secular? Lets fix these things first.
When it comes to Pakistan, however, their stand can also be easily falsified. Why did they invade Kashmir in the first place? Second, what are they going to preach to India when they have their own problems like Balochistan, NWFP, Sindh, and previously Bangladesh. There is alot of hypocrisy on both sides, which needs to be stopped. Both sides need to stop blaming each other, fix their own problems, and learn to compromise on Kashmir.
Lastly, if Pakistan really wants to work for the “goodwill of Kashmiris”, then tell them to work for Kashmiri Hindus only, and not only the Muslims. Unfortunately, this will not happen, because again Pakistan is only concerned about making J&K a part of Pakistani territory, and for this, they cannot afford to have Hindu population.

  28. Correction to last Paragraph in previous post:

Unfortunately, this will not happen, because again Pakistan is only concerned about making J&K a part of Pakistani territory, and for this, they cannot afford to have Hindu population.

Comparing to 120000 Muslims killed only finger count of kashmiri pandits are killed (Mostly by Indian army to defame the Freedom struggle). If these KP’s are saying Yasin Malik is a butcher then what you call the Indian communal army which on daily basis killing 20 innocent kashmiris from now two decades. Anyway stop the funding to kashmiri pandits today and other lucrative special facilities (Kashmiri Muslims are not getting any funding from the so called Indian democratic government), tomorrow they will start to coming to Kashmir and we all Kashmiri Muslims will welcome to our kashmiri pandit brothers.

  34. To Raja,
I agree with you. Indian Government needs to do more to allow Kashmiris to be able to work in rest of India. The problem is, people in India are scared to work with Kashmiris, or let them live in their homes or hotels, because they are afraid they might be involved in terrorism. India is a complicated place. If the hotel manager allows a kashmiri to live in his hotel and the kashmiri turns out to be a terrorist, the manager will suffer too. Police will interogate him non-stop.
    As for Malik Mehraj:
Kashmiri Muslims have suffered to no end. There is no denying that. But the fact that us Kashmiri Hindus have suffered at the hands of these Muslim extremists doesn’t help your cause.
You spewing hatred towards the Kashmiri pundits and telling us that we are lying, is also not helping your cause. Why? Because then WE can also say that it isn’t the Indian army that is killing you, but the pak-based militants that are killing you.
Just accept the fact that Muslims are suffering at hands of Indian army, and Hindus are suffering at hands of Kashmiri Islamic militants.
Lets stop this hatred. Accept the facts and help each other get rid of this unecessary violence.

  35. giving a platform to a rapist and murder, he murdered for 4 IAF officers waiting for a bus absolutely unpardonable, SHAME on India Today and PZ too that so called informed and socially aware actress, after reading the plight of kashmiri pandits I feel we need a varun gandhi, a narendra modi rather than a nehru for our hindu sisters in kashmir.

  36. Mr. Kapoor,
You rightly point out that there will be no solution in Kashmir without forgiveness. In the spirit of that sentiment, I wish you had asked Yasin whether HE has asked for the forgiveness of the innocent people he harmed while expressing your concern for his forgiveness for those who tried to contain his violently harmful activities.
As Peace4Kashmir says that if Kashmiri muslims have suffered at the hands of the Indian army, Islamic militants have wrecked havoc on Hindus in Kashmir. So how is it that the opinion makers in Indian society eagerly bring only the army excesses into public conciousness and push the latter under the carpet – is it out of fear of being labeled anti-muslim.
    Mr. Malik Meghraj Khalid:
What lucrative special facilities for Kashmiri Pandits are you talking about? Have you even seen the refugee encampments in places like Delhi where they live? Also please look up the central government funding figures Kashmir receives at the expense of taxpayers from the rest of India – considering Kashmir contributes very little in income taxes – before you stake a claim to Kashmiri Muslims receiving nothing from the Indian Government. May be you should ask your Abdullahs and state legislature you elect where that funding is going.
It is one thing to lie to others, you lie to yourself to rationalize the unjustifiable – and no amount of repetitive postings of your assertions can gloss over that fact.

  37. Dear Pandit brothers, comapared to 120000 thousand kashmiri muslims only 209 Kashmiri Pandits lost their lives since from 1989 (http://www.screenindia.com/news/209-kashmiri-pandits-killed-since-1989-say-jk-cops-in-first-report/305457/), which means for me that we lost 120209 Kashmiris in this period. I am surprised that why our kashmiri pandits are not talking about kashmiri muslims sufferings. Are not you aware of the daily stories publishing by local newspapers (http://www.greaterkashmir.com/today/full_story.asp?Date=4_4_2009&ItemID=58&cat=1 -TODAY GK, YESTERDAY Kashmir Obrvr, The day befor yesterday rising kashmir and http://www.greaterkashmir.com/full_story.asp?Date=1_4_2009&ItemID=44&cat=1 APRIL 1st. You all (KP’s) need to check the hate material posted on this blog by kashmiri muslims and kashmiri pandits.
    To Mr.RA
Don’t you know that india is stealing our electricity, looting our forests, damaging our tourism, polluting our atmosphere (by indian so called security forces). The illegal presence of more than a million indian troops on our land is not having any negative impact on our economy. Dear Mr. RA, this applies to Pakistan also.
Now to all of you (KP’s), all your kashmiri muslims are waiting for your early coming to your homes…we miss you a lot…we & you are incomplete without each other…&…i am requesting to all the kshmiri muslims and pandits through this blog not to keep any type of hatred against each other…we are one & we are not Pakistani’s, Indian or Chinese…WE ARE KASHMIRIS

  38. bring back peace. it is a great idea , but how. having lived with these people for 15 years and now working also in a country dominated and controlled by these people ur just simplifying the problem. it is not that simple. the basic root problem is islam u agree or disagree. u see as individuals they are wonderful people but god knows what happens when the get united. all lines are blurred out then. our friend is asking us to come back —— for what to get killed or still suffer the same fate as our other friends did. it is a known fact that even if a minority person gets good marks in entrance test he /she never gets it. most govt employes are from them .no future. go back and see the mountains . lol. i found out a striking similarity in the ideology of these people now be they in india or anywhere. they r by and large the same. u can keep on discussing but unless these people as a whole do not change and leave their religious ideology behind it will be impossible. the way our friend is talking it seems as if he has a inherent right to all electricity and so forth failing to understand that even a months cut off of supplies from centre and u will starve. see this is the difference——– they seem to live in a world far from reality and yes if ur people are getting killed they deseve that . u wanted freedom not us we knew what was the reality, and if u think and believe that the same trust can be put on u people back—– forget it. ur not faithful to ur own country what u will be faithful to others. tell this story to likes of bharka dutt and her likes. we have seeen u people in and out and not u ur brothers also……. u all fit in the same category. if yassen malik is alive today it is because it is india and he can still do all this nonsense and get away with it.if he were in this place they would have cut his hands and probably rightfully chopped all of u people . why the govt is not doing that and instead continuing to carry on this proxy game no one will understand.and who is affected —-those that are least interested in these kinds of ideologies. but mind u——– hindus in general and everyone else are fast catching up and waking now to this and if u continue to the same path the future is not that blurred for us to see what is going to happen.till then u can enjoy under the indian so called secularism which except for the word is already dead

  39. it is really sad shekar that people like yasin malik who are know terroists are allowed to come in this way. and for preity zinta-.well the less said the better and i mean it. where have ur morals gone. is this what ur trying to teach exactly asking what are u upto. these zombies all over the world never ever changed since their first caliph———-u expect tall words and acts like forgiveness . blahhhhhhhhhh. and yasin malik crying ———he should be hanged of that there is no doubt and so should all those who want freedom. give them the freedom to get out from this earth so that at least others can live in peace. we for sure need people like narender modi. the concept of tolerance and democracy is applicable only when people are matured——–u dont talk all this with islamic people. u can go on discussing they will never change. the world and everyone faces a true danger from this religion. what is supposed to make u a better person turns u into dull morons who have no capacity to think.stop this buttering business with them and get to real work. if they cannot understand india , why should india understand them

  40. we will get independence one day, we dont like to be with india, we dont hate indians , we respect their nationalistic ideas but since we were not the part of india, we would like to live independently.
