Monkey mind

Thank you ‘morning rays’. It makes me feel great there is a community out there that I can share with. Bond with. Honestly ? I am trying to calm the mind down. It has been in what I call the ‘scrambling mode’. Which is what you get into when you make and release a film. You are constantly problem solving amidst a hundred people. It has been too used now to diversions for so long, it keeps looking for them. I have the script of Paani in my mind, in my heart. Just finding it difficult to getting it down on paper. Trying to calm my mind down. Get used to being alone, and get on with it ! shekhar

  1. hi shekhar……..thanks……thats the spirit! its true that when you share on almost a daily basis you get into the skin of the person and just ‘know’ if all is well or the silence is a sign of pressure building up within.
your script will flow beautifully on paper as your work always does…….give it time. you are sensitive and so are feeling things accutely but as long as you know its a natural process and will pass you will be alright.
as for being alone shekhar…….WE ALL ARE….sometimes physically……other times with people but so long as you know someone cares for you….your aloneness is not so lonely! when you express yourself it becomes so much easier to share with you. there would be people around you who would bring laughter, companionship and fill the void you are feeling in quite a natural manner but they need to know you want it and also a way to approach you.
we all go through a lot in life but i feel the worst moments are when you bottle up and do not invite someone into your life to make you feel better. the moment you talk to or listen to the other person your focus on your problem relaxes and doesnt feel ‘the worst’.
you will do fine shekhar……..we are there with you ! never forget that ok ? 🙂

  2. Water!
(With due permission from the two friends who had this chat)
PK: Shekhar Kapur is making a movie on it.
Knk: He has been talking abt it since a long time.
PK: Haan. I read his blog. He’s writing the script.
Knk: So what are you thinking? Dont even think about sending him your portfolio. You’ll scare him.
PK: Ah! Please! What do you think? Water would become a smuggled commodity with mafias like you?
Knk: Chalo mafaia bana k pani ka raja to banaya. I’d love to see u begging for every drop of water. Jst imagine what all things people cld do to you for water.
PK: And you’ll have girls seducing you for water
    Knk: They do that anyway!
PK: And then someone will ditch you for a bigger bottle… Size matters!
Knk: Apne bf jaisaa samajha hai kya? Girls are God’s gifts to me.
PK: Kyun? Unhone tumhari body par fingers, toes aur legs ki jagah haathinuma water bottles ugaane ka promise kiya hai kya?
Knk: Nhn… wo to tumhare… khair doob maro chullo bhar pani main. Pani ki scarcity main ye kitni privileged aur blessed maut hogi!
PK: Hmmm… somehow it reminded me of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four.
    Sir,
I know it’s absurd to interrupt someone who has much experience in writing and who is already on the verge of getting everything down on paper. But, I would still like to suggest you to read the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four before penning the final script.
    All the Best!

  3. Dear Shekhar,
I hope you are doing well and I am sure the Paani script will turn out just great. These are two wonderful quotes on writing:
It’s true that writing is a solitary occupation, but you would be surprised at how much companionship a group of imaginary characters can offer once you get to know them. – Anne Tyler
Writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals.
    Don DeLillo
I hope you are enjoying the Solitude as well as the Freedom. I promise you both are great things in life and vital for quality thinking and happiness. The only other requirement is to be earning decently well to enjoy these two blessings, so I sincerely hope you enjoy this wonderful phase of your life.
It’s 11:50 pm and I am drinking wonderful cold coconut WATER as I write this post – Total bliss!
    Best Regards,
    Himanshu

  4. Dear Shekhar,
Tried! But can’t help Being not sensitive!
In this very calculative world of big numbers…..
    Ups, downs,
    Blocks, unblocks,
    Agression, supperession,
    Depression……..
I guess that’s what the essential parts of this mystery called life. Another day another challenge and again it’s our turn to prove it…But for what!
TO BE AND TO BE IS THE QUESTION…..!
Last week I just landed in Newyork for doing another indie film. As an actor trying to be someone else again. That’s so funny cause…who could not discover himself yet….is trying to be some one else. How superficial is that…It’s almost a week left till they start the filming but I just like to sit alone in my hotel room read your blog look at the picture of Paani…and keep going deep and deep in thoughts about that lady with a little baby in her lap. Streets of New York are still same and traffic looks bit more chaotic than before…It seems like “It’s the only me there in this world who doesn’t have nothing to do.”
I wish one day I could find a better meaning of my life…Please wish me luck.
You are the inspiration for many and reading your blog make us proud and give us peace.
Regards and all the best wishes for Paani !
    Sanjay

  5. u take care sanjay, and remember that doubt is in an integral part of how our mind tries to control us. So accept doubt as a reality that is only imposed, not real, shekhar

the beatles made sense all those years ago, huh ?

  8. Shekhar,
Thanks for the great advice. Never thought and looked at doubt as imposed reality….Great lines. And I think the RAINBOW by morning rays is real. Watched TGA in BA flight again 2nd time, and enjoyed it even more than to the first I saw in theatre. This time it wasn’t a story of queen, England or Spain to me but it was about all of us.
    Thanks!
    Sanjay

  10. Dear Sanjay,
There is no need to worry. All our lives follow a certain pattern and persistence always has something good for everyone in the end. There is a saying, “Faith which does not doubt is dead faith.” -Miguel de Unamuno, so you are on the right path. I also had doubts when I left my job at 24 and sat at home for 6 months and told my parents that I’ll only go to the US for my MBA or do nothing, with hardly any probability, and got a full scholarship in the first Univ. I applied to. I learnt a valuable lesson – that nothing is difficult in this world – not even climbing Mount Everest (I even met a few climbers in New York and they were simple people with goals) and all difficulties are in our mind.
Also never go by the statistics that people tell you that only 1% of the people succeed. We make these stats and they don’t make us. In my opinion 80 to 90% of the people who believe enough and are willing to go the extra mile succeed. The other 99% lose even before they start. As Sun Tzu says (and repeated by Michael Douglas in my favorite film “Wall Street”), “Every battle is won before it is ever fought.” It’s all in the mind and it’s upto us. This world is such a wonderful place and we are living in a great time.
    Best Wishes,
    Himanshu

    Sanjay

  14. Shekhar-
I am trying to find some information on the girl who played the role of Minni in Masoom (the youngest daughter). What is the actual name of the artist? And would you know if she did any other film after Masoom.
    Thanks

  17. Shekhar the state you want to get used to…
    Becareful…
So far thee ran for wants, when ye close thyself needs will awake!!
    Take Care…
    Hugss

  18. hi ! maybe you need to be honest with yourself 1st about what YOU REALLY WANT……..and then like the rest of the world does……..create a situation for it to happen for you !
dont mind my saying so , but , i feel you complicate your life yourself to quite an extent…….
if you are lonely and looking for a good relationship , you are not going to find it by living in the same space as your ex spouse. you would have to go through the inconvenience of fending for yourself in terms of running of the household to the whole package of being by yourself and creating the ambience for a new guilt free relationship.in a relationship of calibre one is not expected to have to break up the other person’s arrangement of convenience !
ofcoarse if flirtations and voyeuristic escapades is what one is looking for to escape the dreariness of the situation one has put himself in……..then THAT IS WHAT COMES YOUR WAY ( yet, can that ever be a solution in the long run ? )! there is ALWAYS a price to pay for everything in life……WE ALL PAY IT…… and YOU ARE WELL AWARE OF IT !
only when you have faced your situation squarely will you TRULY GET ON WITH IT !

  19. Dear Sanjay and Rajesh,
Thanks for your words and I belive that knowlege and experiences are meant to be shared and you get a lot of joy in return. I read lots of quotes and books to keep myself motivated and they have really helped shape myself in the last 6-8 yrs.
Lately I’ve been doing some research on “indentity” and to understand what we are(to whatever extent we can) i.e. how we are connected and different from each other. I found some great quotes and hope you like them:
    1. There is no such thing as a person. There are only restrictions and limitations. The sum total of these defines the person. The person merely appears to be, like the space within the pot appears to have the shape and volume and smell of the pot.
    Nisargadatta Maharaj
    2. Committing yourself is a way of finding out who you are. A man finds his identity by identifying. A man’s identity is not best thought of as the way in which he is separated from his fellows but the way in which he is united with them.
    Robert Terwilliger
This quote will work nicely in the “Love” post, but it relates to the quotes on identity, so I am putting it here.
    3. The great Indian teacher Nisargadatta Maharaj once said, “Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between the two my life flows.” “I am nothing” does not mean that there is a bleak wasteland within. It does mean that with awareness we open to a clear, unimpeded space, without center or periphery–nothing separate. If we are nothing, there is nothing at all to serve as a barrier to our boundless expression of love. Being nothing in this way, we are also, inevitably, everything. “Everything” does not mean self-aggrandizement, but a decisive recognition of interconnection; we are not separate. Both the clear, open space of “nothing” and the interconnectedness of “everything” awaken us to our true nature. This is the truth we contact when we meditate, a sense of unity beyond suffering. It is always present; we merely need to be able to access it.
    –Sharon Salzberg, Lovingkindness
Hope you all have a great week ahead.
    Regards,
    Himanshu
