The two of me

I am jealous
and greedy
and angry
and I hurt

I love
and I hate
I mean well
but manipulate
I am confused
and riddled by doubt
Of course I am
I am after all
only human
and yet
I long
I yearn
I aspire
to be compassionate
to be creative
to be whole
to be infinite
I am spiritual too
I am two
but one
must live with the other
with compassion
and forgiveness
till I am only one
but till then,
I must learn to be two
I am after all
only human

  1. Never read a poem that so profoundly expresses the state of mind. Are there right answer to the questions of life with regards to morality, value, integrity ? Is anybody there who is perfect ?
Although this poem is not an answer in itself it feels good to know that Sekhar kapur also has the same questions.

  2. shekhar, check your palms. You must be having lots and lots of criss cross lines, a lot more than what people normally have. And also your palms should be softer than other people’s, especially Deepak Chopra’s.

  3. Dear Shekhar
FIRST TIME AS I WENT THOUGH YOUR WEB PAGES AND FEEL YOU ARE DEDICATED PERSON AND TRYING TO EXPLAIN HUMANITY ,WELL, KEEP IT UP,SURE ONE DAY YOU WILL GET CHANCE TO UNDERSTAND REAL HUMANITY OR IF YOU VISIT PLACE WHERE HUMANITY ARE GETTING DESTORY WITHOUT ANY REASON ,WE ARE ALL HUMANS NOTHING SHOULD INTERESTING THAN HUMANITY,IF SOME ONE REALLY UNDERSTAN THE HUMANITY.
    HAZEEN HASRAT

  4. It is a shame to come to such a poor conclusion as “I am only human.” As long as you think that you will continue to be confused, lost, and full of angst, hopelessly schizophrenic between being and nothingness for what is being human but being nothing?
You are more than human – you are divine.

  5. Wow!!!
    I had writen somethign similar…
    Ought and Is
There is in me an ought
I ought to be this way,
Friends/family/colleagues ought to behave that way
The world ought to be a fair place
But there is a reality which ‘is’
I am jealous as i am kind
I am mean as I am generous
I am limited as I am free
And so it is with others too
They are what happened to them at home with their spouse
They are what their bosses took them to task for
And deep inside they are as much me
struggling with their óughts’, accepting their ‘ís’
And so it is with the world
There is beauty in the rains
There is grandeur in the ocean
There is life in Nature’s cycle
Yet the rain deluges and takes life
    Ocean overflows and wrecks homes
Leopard eats up the innocent deer
If I am at peace with the ‘ís’ perhaps I will not need the ‘ought’ some day
